Arrived in Boston tonight...the entire flight from Milwaukee to Boston was Brewers fans. Now, I just realized I'm staying at the same hotel as the players. Expect a Brewer fan presence in this series.

That's awesome, forget Red Sox nation it's all about Brewers nation. Have you talked to any of the players?

Sheraton Boston

Saw Ned Yost with a big cup of coffee from the Starbucks in the hotel. Also saw Hart and his wife this morning.

EDIT: I'm looking at Uke right now. Don't want to disturb him, though; he seems like a private man.

Brewer Fanatic Staff

Posted this in the in-game thread as well, sorry and thanks --

Bummer last night, we all knew there was no chance once the rain started 90 minutes or so before game time, yet in true Red Sox fashion, they had us sit until 9:00 PM while they cashed in on concession sales.

I was amazed at the number of Brewer fans in town and chatted with many, and I heard comments over and over from Red Sox fans who were likewise impressed with the strong showing from the road team. They're not used to that, except for Yankee games, of course. Naturally, with my own Brewer gear on, I looked like a confused tourist as well.

The rain is clearing here as of 8:00 AM Saturday morning, and it looks like once things dry out, folks with tickets to the regularly scheduled Saturday game are in for a fine afternoon. Sprinkles and light showers may return this evening for the nightcap.

The fact that the "early" game is locked into a 4:00 PM Eastern Time start for FOX sports really messed things up.

It's one thing to have a day-night doubleheader (separate admissions) when the games are at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

It's going to be a madhouse today (I'll be at both games, but everyone has to exit the park and then re-enter).

An 8:35 local start time is late, but personally, just because it would serve the networks right, I'm rooting for a 17-inning opener. Then you'll have 36,000 people stuffed into a one-block radius waiting to get inside for the nightcap. Honestly, the games are scheduled only four and 1/2 hours apart, and FOX games always run longer anyway, and you have two very slow workers in Dice-K and Suppan, each of whom allow many baserunners, on the mound. This has the potential for chaos.

Brewer fans who came in for both Friday and Saturday games will be fine. Those who only had tickets for Friday are relly getting hosed in this deal.

I'm sure they tried to take into consideration the traveling Brewer fans, because a Sunday night day-night doubleheader would have forced all fans flying out Sunday night to miss the game altogether.

An 11:00 AM game today would have made sense, but the forecast as of last night indicated things may not have cleared up yet.

I spent the entire day in Boston walking the city, and the rain wasn't an issue until 4:30 or so, so we did see many Brewer fans taking in the local sites, but I'm sure the focus is on baseball, and that sure did not work out last night.

I admit I haven't brought up Brewerfan.net to most of the folks I've talked to, so it's possible you spoke with "Mass Haas": without realizing it.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

Oh, and my brush with celebrity was seeing Bill Schroeder and I believe, his family, walking through the mall at the Prudential Center. I gave him a shout out too, which he acknowledged....

I predicted about 1,000 fans from our side per game...turns out that was pretty conservative.

Fenway last night was actually pretty fun...even though there was no game, walking around the park and taking in the scene and chatting with Brewers fans was great.

Red Sox fans are mostly fine, until you go out into the bleachers, in which case it suddenly feels like Wrigley. Have I mentioned that New Englanders, while skilled, have nothing on Wisconsinites as far as holding their liquor goes?

One last note: Fenway Franks are AMAZING.

I can't remember the last time I went to Fenway Park and saw so many fans of the opposing team. The turnout is awesome.

I just left for a run about an hour ago and it was completely cloudy and pretty damp. Now I'm looking out at a beautiful blue sky and sunshine -- a perfect day for baseball. Watching the weather forecast now and it looks the evening showers are supposed to mainly north of Boston, so hopefully we'll all stay dry and avoid delays.

Was there a polite clap for the team as they got swept out of Fenway?

I nevere heard one Brewer fan unfortunately...saw a few sad-looking ones

Trust me, there were some considerable roars when the Brewers made a big play. Especially on Saturday night.

They still embarassed themselves, though.

Classic Mass.

Here's my thoughts on the weekend in Boston:

1) There are some places that you go and fall in love with and want to go back. That being said, if I never go to Boston again in my life I probably won't be that disappointed.

2) Seemed like a lot of dudes running around the back bay at night there. Either that, or I just did not notice the women. Probably because very few of them made any effort to try to be "hot". I can't recall seeing any women with streaks, highlights, layers, or anything sexy with their hair, or much for low-cut tops or showing off the cleavage or tans (via tanning beds or tan-in-a-can). I didn't expect it to be LA, but I'd say even Madison has an edge in the female population (and it is a fair comparison because Boston is a college town). And for being fairly plain, they weren't very engaging. Seemed like people went out in their "clicks" to hang out with their "clicks" and not meet people.

3) If I never see Youkilis or Pedroia again it will be fine with me. Youkilis might have made the Top 10 Most Hated list; not to Sheffield, Bonds, or Zambrano status, but somewhere around Kirby Puckett and Derrek Lee status.

4) The one thing Boston has going for it - a Dunkin' Donuts on every corner. Chocolate glazed razed or chocolate stick... mmmm. Gimme that over Starbucks/Coffee Bean on every corner any day.

5) My roommate, who is from Connecticut, asked me how I liked Boston. I said it was OK. When he asked why I said because the women weren't very attractive. He said, "Welcome to the East Coast."

6) I was amazed by how many people, mostly Boston fans, who stopped me to compliment me on my "Tropical Tuesday" jersey. One guy literally was pulling all of his friends over to look at it. I was hoping more chicks would notice, but again it was pretty much just dudes. But very complimentary, with some saying it was the coolest jersey they had ever seen in their life. That made the weekend tolerable.

7) I think I know how I will make my millions. I will start a chain of health clubs in Boston that are geared towards women that have workout facilities, spin/pilates classes, a spa, tanning beds, and hair/makeup stylists with stylists flown in from LA to train them, all under one roof. The health club membership gets you discounts at the tanning beds and hair/makeup salons. There is a need.

Hey, I think I saw you! My friend commented on the jersey.

Anyway, the weekend was fun, despite the losses. I'm proud of Brewers fans for their presence...A few fans and a hot dog vendor told me that was the most opposing fans they'd ever seen at Fenway, I overheard a few people wondering why there were so many of us, and the incredulous looks of Sox fans when "Let's Go Brewers" chants rang through the bleachers on Saturday were all pretty sweet.

Also, I don't think we got heckled in a mean-spirited way all weekend, even after getting swept...With the exception of the Johnny-come-lately's, Sox fans are humbled by their many years of failure, and were more interested in talking about Hah-vey's Wallbangah's and Millah Pahk than making fun of us...same goes for the ticket-takers who went out of their way to welcome us to Boston...I don't really like the Red Sox, but most of their fans really impressed me.

One note on in-game atmosphere though...it's not as hardcore as its made out to be...for example, most of the fans (at least in our sections) weren't standing until 2 strikes and 2 outs in the 9th inning. I've been to a few Brewers games with more passionate crowds (ex: the 13 inning game against the Mets last July had a standing, cheering, and chanting crowd for most of extras).

I've never been able to figure out how people in that neck of the woods would say Millah Pahk, then turn right around and say Mark Loretter.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

It's when there's back to back vowels that produce the extra r. Mark Loretter is a second baseman. Mark Loretta plays second base, however.

The hardcore-ness of Fenway depends on where you sit. I love sitting in the cheap seats because even though you are more apt to get stuck with more drunken jerks, you also get people who care more. I've seen very exciting games in better seats where people leave early and don't care. The johnny come latelys are taking over, unfortunately. You'll see a lot of the standing and cheering in tighter games or come from behind games, but not usually where there's a lead.

And given that the women I see here on a daily basis pretty much constantly give me an inferiority complex, remind me never to visit where LouisEly lives!

We must have been running in the same circles, because I had a few people tell me the same thing. They said they've never seen a team travel like that, not even the Yankees.

Oh, thanks for reminding me. I left one out:

8) I'm not sure what is worse - sitting next to the drunken jerk or sitting next to the obnoxious think-they-know-it-all 12 year olds who spew out every thought that comes through their mind (including the perceived sexual preferences of many of the opposing teams players), and their dad sitting next to them who doesn't say a thing. (Kudos to grandpa, who said to me that I was "extremely patient" - but sometime around the sixth inning I had to turn to the kids and give them the stink-eye. It was the only time they shut up for 20 seconds the whole game.)

Just curious, but why do you hate him so much? I hate the Red Sox fans but I actually like some of their players, and I like Youk a lot.

Because, like Puckett, every ball he hit managed to be hit in the right place, either for a hit or to advance the runners. I don't think he had one at-bat that wasn't productive. When they drew the infield in on Saturday night's game he hit a blooper in the exact right spot where Fielder and Hart couldn't get to it, the only place on the whole friggin' diamond that it could possibly have landed for a hit, and it scored two runs. And then I had to listen to that dang "YOUUUUUUU" chant. So like Puckett he is not high on the despised list because he isn't a bad person; he is on the despised list because he is a Brewer killer.
