Joe Dillon still underappreciated / What to do about Bill hall?

AJAY
Hardy is hitting .275 with a .364 OBP and a .697 OPS since the 5th game of the year so he doesn't bother me as much. Obviously he needs to start getting some extra base hits but I can live with the OBP he is giving us.

Hall is hitting .184 with a .268 OBP and a .628 OPS since the 5th game of the season. He has been pretty dreadful for quite smoe time now and his 2 HR game is making it look better than it has been.

And if we ignore all his home runs he has been even worse!

Didn't say to ignore his HRs, saying his stats look a tad bit better because of one good game in the first week. Hall has been a pretty prolonged slump, Hardy had a really bad week to start the year and has been what we expect out of him minus a couple extra base hits since.

Hall has seen a pretty steady drop in his OPS since that first week other than one brief 3 game hot streak all against lefties. He has been terrible against righties all year.

Hardy started the year 1/17 and done largely what is expected of him since other than losing a little power.

If one of these guys needs to sit down because they are 'struggling' it is Hall for sure.

I don't see a lot of reason to keep Hall out there. His approach at the plate is to try to hit a home run on every pitch. Even when he gets two strikes he is still swinging for the fences. He is a lot of like Branyan except at least Branyan will walk a lot. Hall needs some time to figure out his swing and get some confidence back. Let him hit against lefties, but putting him out there against righties is an out waiting to happen right now.

Hardy, on the other hand, is now hitting .260 with an OPB of .338. There is no reason at all to sit him. He is starting to walk a little more, strike out less, and maybe most importantly he is hitting the ball to opposite field

Bill Hall Career vs. Lefties: .274/.354/.495/.849

Russell Branyan vs. Righties: .231/.332/.479/.811

Bill Hall Career vs. Righties: .256/.304/.453/.757

3TO Career vs. Lefties: .215/.297/.469/.766

Granted, Branyan is 32 and probably won't be getting any better. That said, a Branyan/Hall Platoon would be exceptional, and a return to the super-sub role for Hall is at the very least worth a shot.

DFA McClung, recall Branyan, return to first place. Simple as that.

I like Joe D, but I'm in favor of the above post. A Hall/Branyan platoon would be awesome, also maybe play Hall at SS or 2B once in awhile. I doubt it will happen given the amount of money Hall is making though.

Branyan has never had any luck staying healthy for a full year, he is now 32 years old and he has marginal skills and old player skills so I'd expect him to be in full decline right now. While calling him up and giving him some ABs wouldn't bother me that much I don't think he is a solution to anything, just a short term bandaid.

How about we hope Hall gets better and returns to at least his averages. Dillon is what 32 and is a career minor leaguer? Hall 28 and has been a bad ass and has won games for this team. And his defense at 3rd has been overall pretty darn good. I say wait.

Can we just stop trying to slice and dice small samples altogether? It doesn't prove anything.

If someone is suggesting a player needs a mental day off because they have been playing poorly lately you pretty much only have the small sample to go by. I was merely saying that Hardy has been hitting much better than Hall has lately and in fact has been since the first week of the season.

When can you start saying a player is slumping and not get accused of using a small sample-size. Hall hasn't really been good all year. He has 7 home runs which is great, but everything outside of that is poor on offense. He has hit one home run in his last 20 games. The one thing I one thing I will give him is that he has done a better job walking lately. This feels like the Jenkins debate to me. When he is hot he can caring a team, it is just too bad he is streaky. However, we have to sit and watch Hall flail away at bad pitches and hit below .100 for two weeks. And lets be honest he may carry us for a week or two but this is a guy who didn't really do anything much to speak of last year either. I want to see the Hall 2006 or even 2005. I just think he might need to sit for a while in order to figure some stuff out. I hope I am wrong though and he tears it up this coming week
