5/10/08 Cardinals (Piniero) at Brewers (Sheets): 2:40 PM CDT

Was at the game. I don't think the boos were unjustified- for Gagne after the ninth or Kendall botching the squeeze.

Squeeze was a GREAT call there. No blue font. In fact Kendall probably beats it out too, the third baseman was playing pretty deep. I can't pin this one on Ned, I was calling for it too. Gotta try and take the lead there.

Gagne needs to sit, and there needs to be someone warming when he is in. In a tie game, he's not the closer, he's another reliever. I would have had Shouse up for Ankiel and another righty going.

Something needs to happen pretty soon if they don't get things turned around. It could get really ugly at the park if this continues.

I didn't mind the squeeze attempt.

Kendall handles the bat well and has grounded into many double plays in his career.

How many has he grounded into this year? Zero.

Maybe that's because Yost put him in a situation where he wouldn't hit into DP's...after the pitcher.

Thank you "olliegjw".

Also, this being the "sample size" website that it is, take a look at his career numbers and tell me he's not a higher than average GIDP risk.

Agreed. I loved the squeeze call (did we ever hear who missed the sign?). Between the GIDP's, Kendall's lack of power in general, and no chance that La Russa would call a pitchout after 2 BB's, it was a perfect call.

Apparently it was Kendall who missed the sign.

I have also heard some put blame on Sveum because he's supposed to wait for the hitter to acknowledge that he knows the squeeze is on.

But at the same time, I've heard some say the hitter doesn't send a sign back to the third base coach, because then the defense knows something is up.

IMO, any way you look at, Kendall missed the sign there. If some want to give partial blame to Sveum, fine.
