Gamel+ for Lincecum?

Someone said something about Anthony Witrado mentioning Gamel plus for Lincecum but I could not find out where. That said Gamel, LaPorta, Parra, and Gwynn would be way too much for Lincecum. I like him a lot but I think the Gamel, Jeffress, Gwynn trade is a little closer.

No, this is what Anthony Witrado said in his recent mailbag on jsonline:

Q: Justin of Fond du Lac - with gallardo out and our rotation in flux would it be out of line trading someone like laporta and gamel to the giants form lincecum the giants are deseperately in need of hitting and our rotation would be dominant next year and very good this year

A: Anthony Witrado - Two things, I doubt the Brewers would trade one of those young hitters and I doubt the Giants would trade a pitcher who they see as their future.

Thank you. Maybe that is what the person was referencing. Sure bent his words a little, but oh well.

I think Gamel, Jeffress, Gwynn would be about as far as the Brewers would go. That first offer would just be stupid for the Crew to accept.

Well now we know what Witrado said. I actually agree with him that the Giants wouldn't trade Lincecum. They would be crazy to, unless they got an insane offer

Why? They aren't in any position to win with him anytime soon. I'd think with how desperate they are for some young bats a package of Gamel and Gwynn would nicely fill two holes for them and a high potential arm like Jeffress would help justify them moving an arm of his quality. I actually like that deal for both sides. I love Gamel but do we really want yet another bat that we have to somehow hide his glove somewhere?

The question is would you make that trade for Gallardo? Lincecum has been ranked a tick above him by scouts at least a couple I read. There is no way I trade Gallardo for a 4th or 5th outfielder, a low A ball pitcher with a great arm and an issue with weed, and a sweet hitting potential 3rd baseman but more likely an OF. I know the Giants are desperate (that explains the Aaron Rowand contract) but I think they could get more for Lincecum. I would send that deal to the Giants in a second, but I don't think they would be so quick to take it. My guess is they would want LaPorta in any deal.

The Giants floated Lincecum's name over the winter, they were prepared to deal him for Alex Rios, and discussed dealing him for Delmon Young.

I have no idea which Brewers players the Giants prefer, but people need to stop saying the Giants wouldn't let go of Lincecum, he was already gone if Toronto had jumped on it.

No one believed Bedard or Haren were truly available at first either, but they certainly were.

Since they were looking at Rios, it doesn't seem that the Giants want prospects for Lincecum anyway. Maybe Sabean thinks they have a shot at the playoffs. I know it's been mentioned elsewhere before, but offers would probably have to start with Hart. Personally, I would rather have a haul of prospects and build for the future if I were the Giants. Of course, I wouldn't even think of trading Lincecum either.

I always forget they floated Lincecum this winter, maybe because I think it is just crazy. Bedard and Haren were available this winter but it took quite the haul to get them both. Haren cost the Diamondbacks 1st, 3rd, 7th, and 8th best prospects along with Eveland .Bedard cost Adam Jones, George Sherrill (not a great player but he does have 11 saves) and three other guys. I am guessing Lincecum would cost a pretty penny due to his age and his stuff. He is coming into his own right now and I dont think Gamel would be enough to be the center piece. Even though I like him a lot, LaPorta is rated much higher than him and would be the center piece in my mind. Would you give up LaPorta and three other prospects for Lincecum? Or would you give Hart for him straight up? That is the question, and it is hard for me to answer because I think Lincecum along with Yo could be downright filthy for the next couple years.

If the Giants did decide to take prospects for Lincecum, I would imagine they'd get Gamel or LaPorta, with Salome or Escobar, and possibly two of our better young arms, which happen to be in A ball right now.

That's a really steep price, but I could picture the Brewers doing it, as stated, that's the sort of deal Oakland and Baltimore were able to get.

I personally wouldn't trade for Lincecum. He's great now, but I really don't think he'll hold up due his small size and violent delivery.

If he was a couple year younger Brandon Webb, I'd sell the farm to get him.

San Francisco is not going to trade their best player anytime soon for prospects no matter how much upside they have. Not sure where these rumours started but they need to be put to bed.

The asking price before Gallardo went down for the year would have been Gallardo. There is no other match even close on this team. The guy is a stud and they control him for several more years.

That doesnt make any sense. Teams are always trading their best players for prospects. The Twins just traded the best pitcher in baseball for mostly prospects, and they are by no means throwing in the towel. Also, why, if the Giants were going to trade away a young major league pitcher, would they ask for basically the same thing in return? I think San Francisco would absolutely take prospects in return, but I agree with Peavy, Cain might be a more realistic target. Although with 6 early picks in June, this would be the year to trade prospects.

Would anyone out there trade Gallardo (even injured) for Henry Sosa, Tim Alderson, Nate Schierholtz, and Angel Villanola ( I think I spelt his name wrong) Feel Fee to substitute San Fran Prospects. Bottom line is it would never happen.

Players get traded for prospects all the time but not when the team still controls them for the forseable future (Lincecum). That almost never happens unless the player being traded is a problem (Elijah Dukes).

I'm not sure you're talking apples to apples here as far as situations- the Brewers are contenders now and for the next few years. The Giants are a disaster of a team that's 8 games out already and likely in full-out rebuilding mode for the next few years. While I understand your point, using Gallardo to make it isn't really apt.

Perhaps a better scenario would have been say Ben Sheets back in 2003.

I think Gallardo and Lincecum are a fare comparison. No San Fran isn't competing now but then neither are the Brewers. The Brewers never traded Sheets in 03 and the Giants would be dumb to trade Lincecum now.

Sorry but without Yo we don't have the pitching depth to win this year. We can still be a favourite for next year but that means signing Sheets or replacing him with similar calibre pitcher. We don't have the pitching depth and don't have anything coming from the minors anytime soon that is realistically going to help in the pitching department. Bush needs to go and hopefully one of Parra and Villanuava will turn into a decent starter. Without Sheets that only leaves us with 3 viable pitchers for next year. When I mean Viable I mean playoff hopes.
