Bramhall and Aguilar

I'm looking at the stats for Brevard, and Bramhall seems like a legitimate prospect, but why is he pitching long-relief--the dumping ground for guys that can't start or pitch late innings?

And Aguilar, the guys in the FSL can't hit him. Seems he should move up.

Bramhall is a shorter left-handed pitcher that has promise as a left-handed specialist with a high-80s fastball and a very good curveball that often buckles the knees of opposing batters. His overall athleticism has also allowed him to see some time as a outfielder during his career at Rice.

 

He may be a relatively easy sign, as he reportedly has made it be known that he would like to start his professional career. He could move quickly as a reliever with a fair amount of success under his belt at the college level playing for perennial D1 powerhouse, Rice.

Bramhall's being used just fine -- he's not a closer, he's not being limited as a specialist, and he's been pushed along at a good pace.

The mention of Aguilar makes me ask if we could reconsider the adopt-a-prospect idea that was mentioned last year. Aguilar was the guy I hoped to feature, and it would be nice if his excellent year was more inticately chronicled. I feel it was a mistake to not put backing behind this idea.

I watched both these guys last year in Charleston....Bramhall is my sleeper pick, or my guy most likely to break out in the prospect rankings. He pitched at a strong baseball school in Rice, and really knows how to pitch and had the guys in the SAL really off balance here. I think he's probably being used just fine. He reminds me of Joe Thatcher in that they seemed like guys who were primed to move up quick. I think the word is they showed maturity and a lower level of ball. Aguilar on the other hand, raw, closer talent to the max! He learns to harness the control issues, which it looks like he is on his way, I say the sky is the limit. The fastball can hit 100, and I look for him to rise as long as he fixes any control issues. To me, these guys are both sleeper prospects in the system. We traded away Thatcher, Inman and Garrison for the likes of Linebrink, I think we need more and more guys like these two in the system, and perhaps those of you who like to rank prospects should see more prospect love for guys like these two...just my two cents from a guy who watched them both pitch last year!

Again, it's a fine idea. The only thing is that all of that information you could find is already in the draft thread, the link reports, and the "your 200x Team Name" threads. Mass does a phenomal job, and probably doesn't get enough praise as the link reports are my first and last read every single day. Your suggestion is basically asking the staff to completely reconsider the way things are done. Change isn't a bad thing, but maybe there is a better way?

 

I believe what you're really looking for is consolidation? Since the profiles all have outdated stats on them, maybe this is something you could talk Brian into helping with? (or anyone who'd be willing to volunteer for that matter...) If the archived news clippings were in the player's profile (with the link to the original source of course) and the stats could be updated via a milb.com plugin or maybe manually if someone was willing to volunteer, then all of the current requests for the website would be taken care of no? Mass already does all the leg work, someone just needs to go the extra step. You could then click on the player's name and get all news, draft coverage, and current stats in one place. If football didn't eat all my time starting the last 2 weeks in July I'd be interested in helping out myself. If a manual process is required that's way too much to ask of the current staff, so maybe Brian would take additional help. If things like the stats can be automated (maybe as easy as a generic link to the player's page on MiLB.com), obviously the man hours involved could be greatly reduced.
