Who's got the scoop on this GO FIND THE KEY business?

lcbj68c

Weeks ago, I noticed myself and several other Brewers employees and office stations were loaded down with these new bottle openers with the phrase "go find the key". Lately, I've seen several billboards w/ that marketing also "don't look here for the key," or something to that effect. It's basically a gold key on a black background. www.gofindthekey.com doesn't provide much answers, as it just gives locations and dates for you to go pick up said key.

In doing a little bit of research, it appears as if the website gofindthekey.com uses the same ip address as those of the Potowatomi casino. That doesn't surprise me that the Brewers are working closely with Potowatomi on some sort of marketing project. Maybe something to do with the grand opening perhaps? I'm a little surprised at the grand scale effort of marketing for the casino however. It always seems packed, they're never enough tables. The poker room I love, but they only offer limit action tables, no tournaments. If anybody with a Potowatomi connection has the scope on the deal, let me in, I'm curious.

I saw a full-page ad for this promotion in Friday's(?) Journal-Sentinel (paper version). Any time I see an ad that size without an obvious product, it piques curiosity.

...not enough curiosity to do that kind of legwork, but I'm glad to see that someone else did it.

We saw a very similar ad before a movie last night, and it said "Don't look at it to make it yours" with a picture of a key underneath. I briefly considered trying to find out what it was, but since I had already looked at the key, I knew I couldn't have it.

It's clearly some sort of creative marketing--and the casino seems like a plausible answer to me. It's clearly working because people are talking about it. My guess is that when you pick up the key, you will have to take it to the casino and try to unlock something to see if you've won.

I don't mind Poblocki, but we don't drive by it nearly as often as you Milwaukeeland residents.

I dislike big-buildup ad campaigns like this Key thing described above. I try extra hard to ignore them.

"Gabbo is coming"

You go in and it lists 5 places and times around Milwaukee/Waukesha where you can get a key mid-May. It says you will know what to do with the key once you get it. 1 Brewers Way is one of the places you can get a key.

At least they are finding creative ways to empty out pockets.

There's two locations on it that seem somewhat Brewers-related: Miller Park (twice) and Brookfield Square (where they have their clubhouse). The "Up and Under Pub", Mayfair Mall and the Majestic Cinema stops - I don't know.

I'm suspicious that this is a Potawatomi promotion. I understand the website is registered to Potawatomi B&C...

To hijack this thread, did anyone ever go to that website esuvee.com that they were advertising where people were riding these giant monsters on the TV commercials amongst other things. They never told you what it was for, and like you, I hate when they do that and I try extra hard to ignore it.

Like the billboards out here prior to the launch of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" that didn't say what it was for, but had the website "ihatesarahmarshall.com" on it.

That key thing is IMO a strange idea. I don't see how some business would spend lots of money on advertising and not tell you who they are. Most people probably give up trying to figure it out after only a short time.

I figured it was for Potawotami and I'm sticking to it. Since I have absolutely no interest in gambling, I'm completely indifferent as to the origin of the ad campaign. If it is not for the casino, then it is in my opinion, a bad campaign. I can not however think of another organization in the area that would do such an off the beaten path attempt at advertising. Considering the whole expansion of the casino and remodeling, I'd think it a safe guess to go with them.

The domain name was purchased by Potowatomi, so I'm sure that it is. I'm sure you'll have to take the key to the casino to open a box and a prize. Kind of cheezy. I like contests that reward people for their intellect or having them accomplish something rather than a random key, luck of the draw scenario. A radio station up north, wanna say Neillsville area, used to do a annual medallion hunt. They'd give out clues every few hours. After a few days, it got found and I think it was a nice prize. That'd be more up my alley than a key in a haystack hunt.

Wow - imagine being named Sarah Marshall (or Sara H. Marshall) and seeing those billboards. That'll make a bad day worse.

IIRC, it was a "drive your SUV safely" website.

But, strange campaigns work. People discussing it will lead to interest peaking when the secret is out.

Marketing isn't complex, but people waste a lot of money on it too. Even though many people will ignore this, many will get all into it and more than make up for the others. We live in a world where a 2% return on junk mail is very good, and cable channels are thrilled they get a 0.2 rating. Results that used to be considered failures are now resume builders.

I happened to be on duty for the night game at Miller Park for the first dispersal. Let's put it this way. All the keys are the same, there is a website on the key packaging that tells you to go to www.gofindthemoney.com. Once there, it tells you to take the key to the Casino to redeem 100 entries into a drawing. I was so disappointed...very lame. I dont want to be in a drawing, I dont want to fill out 100 slips of paper. I just wanted to try my key in a box at a chance of winning. The casino disapoints again with it's same ol same ol style of gaming by trying to entice the public into "entering a drawing". Getting old.

Yeah the key gives you 100 entries into Pot's big grand opening drawing - although the entries are all electronic now - just give them your key and your FKC card and the entries will be put in your account. During the week leading up to the grand opening (June 19), they have drawings every day (must be present to win though).

I think this might actually have something to do with Key Bank moving into the area soon. This is just speculation on my part, but I read that Key Bank does a lot of business w/Native American tribes. Perhaps Potowatomi is a new client or has been one for a while now. Here's a link to an article I found:

The relevant info is on the last page.
