They really need to work on this and bench guys who can't lay off pitches.

Yeah, too bad they used to have some guy named Gross who was great at taking walks.

Yeah, but we have Rickie Weeks to take walks. Apparently he gets enough for the whole team?

i emphatically RANG UP berkman (or whoever) on that 2-2 pitch. Unbelievable zone.

but yeah, I was watching the end of the Jays 4-3 win over the Sox... and Accardo is the Toronto closer, right?

he's the closer... that's what he does. he closes. the only "title" out there.

but this really odd thing happened when Accardo got the first 2 outs. Thome - a lefty - entered the box, and guess what? a DIFFERENT pitcher - a lefty (not Ryan) came in to get the last out. My trained brain had a meltdown and I had to re-boot the hard drive. Toronto won.

Gagne getting squeezed and Gagne lacking control are not mutually exclusive. Most of the time they are self-reinforcing. Cuzzi stunk, but Gagne never once put two pitches in the same general location and challenged Cuzzi to keep making a call. He was scattershot and he paid the price, even if it was unfair.

I'm officially on the "no more Gagne as the closer" bandwagon!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable. We should be in first place if it wasn't for him. Gagne better buy Sheeter a new car after today.

He's #2 in the NL with 9 saves. Only one other closer has more, with 10.

Also #1 in blown saves, which to me is more telling. Gagne looks to be at best our 3rd best reliever.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

Yeah, that's only because every freakin' game is a Save opportunity. The odds are in his favor. He has 9 saves and 5 blown saves (maybe six...I lost count). THAT's NOT GOOD!

I hate the fact that this cost Ben Sheets a Win.

I hate the fact that this umpiring crew continues to cost the Brewers wins.

I hate the fact that the Brewers haven't been to the playoffs since 1982.

I hate the fact that I'm too young to remember the 82 season.

I hate the fact that the Brewers swing and miss so much.

I hate the fact that all Brewer aces get hurt.

I hate the fact that Ned Yost is the Brewers manager.

I hate the fact that the Brewers are playing all these extra inning games.

I hate the fact that Ned Yost uses 5+ pitchers when he can use 3.

I hate the fact that the Cubs now spend like the Yankees.

I hate the fact that my favorite team lets me down every year.

I hate the fact that I could name 100 more things I hate as a Brewer fan.

I hate the fact that I can't simply stop being a Brewer fan because I'm in for the long haul.

I dont have confidence in anybody else closing for this team.

I envy that you have some left in Gagne.

I'm not trying to be a Gagne apologist, but I'm saying that we had a 4 run lead - he only gave up two of those while the umps squeezed him at the plate and made the horrible call at first base. We've been all but dead offensively since the 4th inning. You can't put all of this on Gagne.

If MLB.com's Gameday is accurate (which it is not always), none of Gagne's "balls" were obvious strikes. Almost all of them were right on the edges of the zone, though. Chances are, at home, several would've been called strikes.
