The Brewers Need Brandon Webb

EDIT: I realize Arizona has the best record in baseball, and isn't going to trade one of the 5 best pitchers in baseball, however, to take that next step, this is the type of player we need to target either in July or the offseason. I would in a heartbeat give up a combo of Fielder/Parra if it ever meant the return of this type of player...

I noted that he is now 7-0 on the year, and at this pace is a strong bet for 20 wins, maybe even 25 wins, and after looking over his stats, I was stunned to see how remarkably consistent and durable he is. After looking over his 5+ year splits, I'm not sure there is another picther in baseball that I'd rather have.

Clearly, the D-Backs will not let him go any time soon. He's signed through 2009 with an option for 2010. Making $5.5M this year, $6.5M next, and $8.5M in 2010, the guy is an absolute steal. The D-Backs were forunate to buy out two years of his free agency (2009 and 2010) at a very modest salary. He'll be 31 at the end of his deal, but I imagine that if there is ever a pitcher to give a 7 year $200 million dollar deal, its Brandon Webb.

Now if only Ben Sheets were this consistent! Was this simply a "diamond in the rough" when he was drafted 8th round in 2000, or was his amazing run of 5+ years completely unexpected?
