Julio Franco Finally Retires

The ageless one has finally called it quits after 23 seasons. It is amazing that a position player was able to play for that many years at that high of a level and have his body hold up.

A sad day for me since now there is nobody in MLB older than me! I wanted him to hang on forever. My favorite encounter with Julio was when he was with Cleveland and he just roped one out down the left field line into the first row just inside the 315 sign. Next time up I said nice rope Julio last time what did you hit? He caught on and said he pulled a 3 iron that just stayed in the fairway. Good quick humor for Julio!

I swear I've seen this thread before. Is this the first retirement for Julio? Then, maybe I just had visions of this thread every year for the past decade.

 

Mad props to Julio and his career. I collected his cards when I first started collecting baseball cards (along with Ruben Sierra). Those guys were awesome together with the Rangers back in those days. Julio and his messed-up stance will always hold a special place for me http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
