Due to Gallardo's injury, time to trade an asset for a good starter

Harden is coming off the DL after good results in his rehab starts. Oakland will have an extra starter.

He is probably the one to be shipped off. It doesn't look like Blanton is going anywhere.

Harden is a great pitcher...when he can actually pitch. I doubt the A's are looking to move him.

Anyone want Eveland back? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Why not do something drastic? Hart, Weeks, and Suppan for Aaron Hill and Roy Halladay. Halladay is owed $30 million for 2010 and 2011 + whatever he's getting this year. The Blue Jays need some serious re-working and it's time they question whether spending millions for Halladay is worth it just to finish around .500 again. They actually have a pretty good rotation and bullpen, so I wouldn't be surprised if offers are entertained for Halladay or for BJ Ryan.

It's an interesting thought. Though stuff like this never happens, it's still fun to play around with. If Melvin was offered that trade, I'm not really sure if he'd laugh it off or accept it in a second. I'm sure that the Blue Jays would much rather have CV or Parra though.

Halladay is such a horse. He'd be an awesome addition to any team.

Well the idea is the Brewers need to dump Suppan to ease the payroll and the Blue Jays play along, then deal him in July. But yeah, they probably would rather have Parra or Villy, and I do that too, if I were Doug. It's not an unreasonable proposal, though it would be very tough to give up Hart.

The Brewers need someone better than Gaudin if they want to contend this season. He's no clear upgrade over anyone currently in the rotation.
I think Gaudin is a clear upgrade over Dave Bush.

I think patience is called for. It's only prudent. In my heart of hearts I don't think the Cards can win the division, a swoon is in order. The Cubs will hit all year but Hill's been sent down already and one injury to another starter might cause a domino affect like ours.

I like the idea of trading Hall and Hardy and Hart. Hardy, if he's not gonna hit, costs us nothing since Escobar is probably the better defender right now. If you don't want to mess with him then play Hall there and start Dillon. Spell Dillon with the occassional Counsell. Now who needs a All-Star shortstop struggling to find his offense but will overlook it because he's cheap and young and has proven upside?

the problem in waiting and hoping for a cardinal collapse is that they have several players they can add to their team down the stretch, and the brewers have "virtually" none. the cardinals have Carpenter and Mulder to add to their pitching staff in August. they also have a guy named rasmus they could bring up or use as trade bait. They also have money they could spend to acquire a veteran who may have a big salary.

The biggest thing I fear about the Cubs is not thier players, but their financial backing. if the Cubs wanted to or saw the need, they could open their purse even larger and acquire several more veteran players if an injury arises. if the Cubs needed another ace starter, they could afford to acquire one. if lee goes down, teh Cubs could afford to acquire another quality veteran to replace him. the Cubs have the financial backing to buy a championship.

if fielder or sheets goes down for the brewers, it's the season's over.

Gaudin in his career: 395 Innings,ERA+ of 97, 4.4 ERA, 1.53 WHIP

Bush in his career: 660 Innings, ERA+ of 98, 4.64 ERA, 1.268 WHIP

They're pretty similar. Now, Gaudin is a few years younger so perhaps there's a bit of a reason to think he'd be an upgrade over Bush, but not enough to trade for IMO. The Brewers shouldn't bother trading for someone who might be good enough to be their 4th or 5th starter.

Gaudin, 25 years old

2007: 34/34 199.1 4.43era 154k/100bb
2008: 6/ 6 36.0 3.75era 26k/ 10bb

Bush, 28 years old

2007: 33/31 186.1 5.12era 134k/ 44bb
2008: 6/ 5 29.2 6.98era 20k/ 14bb

Gaudin has only really been exclusively a starter the last 2 years and while his walk totals were bad in 2007 it isn't out of the realm of possibility that a 24/25 year old will improve his walk rate. Gaudin also pitches in the AL which means he would benifit from facing the pitcher.

This is actually the one year where I wouldn't worry about the Cubs money. The Tribune Corp. has been struggling financially, especially since they were bought out (there are rumors that without major changes they could be bankrupt by next year). Picking up a missing piece for the Cubs probably won't be the company's first goal.

I don't see who the Cubs could get in return without bankrupting their farm system. They are not willing to trade Pie. If they are to make any trade it will be with their younger players and are they really willing to get rid of a Marmol or a Pie for a better bat? Who would they even be able to get?

I doubt the Reds will trade with the Cubs unless they got a trade that they couldn't pass up. That means no Dunn or Griffey to the Cubs. I don't see the Pirates trading with the Cubs again. Even though I believe Bay is now expendable for them. The only other option is Barry Bonds and I don't see the Cubs picking him up.

Theres not that many options for the Cubs. I doubt they will go offense anyways since their starting rotation hasn't looked to good. Besides Dempster and Zambrano their starting pitching hasn't been that great.

Except for that he pitches in Oakland which is a pitchers park, and in probably the best division for pitchers in the game right now.
