My favorite place to go whenever I want to feel good about the state of the Brewers and myself in general. There are quite a few good posters over there but a lot of really negative people as well. The sky is always falling over there.

How is that any different than here? The negativity has been front and center the last 2 years. Instead of enjoying winning baseball people post exactly how Rydogg pointed out, this guy sucks, cut this guy, fire the manager, fire the hitting coach, the 3rd base coach is killing us, etc.

I enjoy reading nssb everytime the Cubs lose because I hate them so much. The whole idea of lovable losers has ticked me off going back to when my family first got cable and WGN. However, I would think that they would get the exact same satisfaction out of reading this website on a day after we lose. Our in game threads have been especially negative the last year or so, I didn't dare read any of yesterday's thread, and I can see where that would be great comedy for them.

We like to think we're superior to Cubs fans, but if you read both sites objectively, we're pretty much the same type of community. In fact, Miller Park has the same idiots in the stands that don't know anything about the game, game ettiquette, the team, or the players in the minors. About all I can say is that at least we don't throw baseballs back onto the field or dump beers on opposing players... we save the beer for football season...

Perception is a funny thing. I'm always of the opinion that this board is way too positive/optimistic and should be more negative/pesimistic. And regarding "winning baseball", the quote in my signature by FTJ says it best....

I agree wholeheartedly with TheCrew07.

I'm a bit of a Cubs fans apologist, however... (I have a lot of Cub fan friends that are really great people and great baseball fans...I do agree that as a fanbase they're smug, self-entitled, and oddly arrogant. )

All the same, whenever you're tempted to go over there and have a chuckle, keep in mind that strangers come here to laugh, too--you can bet they were here last night.

No, we're really not. This is a great board, but negativity definitely seems to be rather prevalent.

I think that the board in general is tilted to the negative. IMO, some of it has to do with the Brewers sucking for so long and 'everybody' being a Packer/NFL fan. In the NFL, every game is important, a tough loss can affect the season and a two or three game losing streak can destroy a season. It seems that many view every Brewer game as a must win and overreact to individual losses, a poor at bat, a bad pitch, etc. The baseball season is a marathon and you can't get too high or too low over an individual game, let alone one at bat or one pitch.

I also believe that the board is negative towards Yost and every move he makes is second guessed. It's not always the same people but it's always somebody. If he plays Kapler with a righty on the mound, somebody complains that he likes to play the hot hand rather than going with the probabilities. If he starts Gwynn, somebody else complains that he sticks too closely to the lefty/right platoon and should go with the guy that is hot. No matter what he does, he gets ripped. And even when he does make the 'right' move (translation: one that works), somebody will always claim that he got lucky and his strategy is flawed but the player bailed him out. Yost even gets blamed for Turnbow's ineptitude; apparently he can only bring him in at the start of an inning with a righty at bat on an even numbered day on the road when there isn't a full moon and the temperature is between 62 and 73... C'mon, Turnbow just sucks or, at best, needs a change of scenery. He didn't fail in Milwaukee because of Ned Yost.

I actually think that some people on this board would be disappointed if the Brewers won the World Series because then Yost would likely be given a contract extension.

Not sure what you are trying to say. That this board has differing opinions? You won't see the same person complain about starting the "hot hand" over a platoon advantage and then complain about starting the platoon advantage over the hot hand.

I disagree on this one. Depending on which way has worked and who the hot hand is at the time, opinions change all the time. I am not going to look up past threads but an example is where he stayed with Mota in the 8th the other day against a lefty batter. It worked and some still asked why he didnt use a lefty. But then next time Ned may make the change, it won't work, and they will get on Ned for making the change and not staying with the "hot" pitcher. He gets killed no matter what happens, win or lose. If it works, there have been comments of the player did it, but if it doesn't, we got Yosted. It's an endless cycle and I am of the same thought that some would still be upset if we made the playoffs and Ned is to blame for not winning more games, or going deeper in the playoffs.

Of course you are not, because what you said is absolutely false.

Yost is always going to get ripped here, because we all have different opinions on how baseball should be approached.

People's gripes stay pretty consistent.

I happen to think it was pretty accurate. But to disagree someone has to go look through thousands of posts?

The lack of moderators at NSBB (or so it would seem) can be annoying. There are also more personal attacks on opposing players over there. I'd bet that there's at least 50 people per IGT calling Prince a "fat ass" every game they play the Brewers. But other than the quoting 138 people and signatures of pics that are larger than my monitor, there are some good posters there.

I'd argue they're more "the sky is falling" than BF though. The reason is because it's pretty representative of their entire fanbase. There are some great knowledgable baseball fans, but there's also the morons who are probably the ones in a drunken stupor in the bleachers who throw crap on the field.

I agree with that. The thing that makes it seem like they don't is that most people will not cross party lines.

There are lots of different ways to approach the game of baseball and I feel like BF.net has a great mix of all of them. Sometimes we look at the game from a purely statistical perspective and make arguments about the Brewers based on complicated statistics that the "average" fan wouldn't understand, such as playing 3TO and batting him leadoff. Sometimes we throw out all the stats and argue to play someone who is "hot", such as Kapler a few weeks ago. Some of us feel like management/coaching has a major impact on the team and will quickly point the finger at the coaches when things aren't going well, while others blame the players themselves for their failings. Some of us are really emotional and like to declare "must win" games in April or are always pointing out when "momentum" swings, while others are quick to point out that every game is only 1/162. Some us have elaborate beliefs about "fan etiquette" at games, others will let out their emotions, whether it is positive or negative.

I think that's what makes this site really great and I really wish there was less animosity and more respect between the different viewpoints. Lots of it comes because most of us are really, really passionate about baseball. However, that doesn't change the fact that it's hard to come on this site after a tough loss. There doesn't have to be a "goat" for every loss, there doesn't have to be someone to blame every time. I really think that the "ESPN culture" has something to do with it, in that in recent years, the focus has been on analysis and not on highlights, so it's easy to over-analyze things for the sake of entertainment. Of course, our lack of patience due to the playoff drought has to matter as well.

So lets try and get along and stop mocking the other side so much, otherwise we will become like stereotypical Cubs fans.

we don't...dump beers on opposing players

I was hoping for a grand slam into that left field corner, but wasn't it great that the player the @sses dumped beers on drove in the tying and winning runs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

In general, sports fans wildly fluctuate between out-of-control optimism and unbelievable pessimism. That shouldn't be surprising, since the major appeal of sports in general is its ability to coax out emotional responses from the viewer. If a sport can't get you to scream at your TV in delight or agony, it's not doing its job.

With regard to sports message boards, the problem isn't when fans express that emotion; it's when they allow that emotion (happy or mad) to influence the objectivity of the opinions that they decide to share with the public. If you want to scream at your TV, "Braun sucks!" you don't want to nor need to justify that statement. It makes you feel good to say it, so you say it. When you decide share it with the world, though, you should be prepared to back up your claim or not share it in the first place.

That's why the vent thread is so great. You can express your frustrations without having to justify your statements with logic or facts. But if the whole message board was like that… well, bf.net would be like every other sports message board. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

This is the same on every message board. I visit most teams message boards for fantasy baseball purposes and I've never seen one where they don't complain about the manager at least somewhat and most have a large portion of the fanbase who think the manager is terrible.

Just wanted to bump this thread since you know there are some cretins lurking tonight for their hit of schaedenfraude.

I am afraid to even go over their and look to see what they have to say about this series. I know we have sucked, they know we have sucked, and now I am sure they feel like they have the division wrapped up. Its amazing how fast things can change, just a week ago the Brewers were flying high while the Cubs had just let us back into the race.

Yeah we pretty much sucked, we have been pwned.

Perhaps are game thread should also be titled LOSERS today?
