Huntsville's offense

battlekow

After tonight's game, they have the league's second- (Gamel, .379) and sixth- (Brantley, .348) leading hitters, four players with OBPs >= .400 (Gamel, .448, 3rd; Brantley, .444, 4th; Errecart, .412, 8th; LaPorta, .400, t-12th), and three of the top ten SLG, including the top two (Gamel, .680, 1st; LaPorta, .644, 2nd; Gillespie, .532, 9th).

Michael Brantley is tied for the league lead in SB with 7, Gamel leads the league in triples by two with 5, and LaPorta leads the league in HR by two with 7.

Top top it all off, and this should be completely unsurprising, they are utterly dominating the runs-scored leaderboard: (Gamel, 26, 1st [by 6!]; LaPorta, 20, t-2nd; Brantley, 19, 4th, Errecart, 18, t-5th; Gillespie, 17, t-7th; Escobar, 16, t-9th).

Wow.

Just the number of extra base hits have been amazing-

Gamel: 16

LaPorta: 15

Gillespie: 12

Errecart: 9

I dont want to be too greedy here, but let's hope Escobar gets going a little bit http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The weirdest thing for me is Salome batting 8th.. I don't recall him ever batting that low in the order before? Errecart is having nice season thus far as well, he gets overlooked quite a bit, I've never followed him closely so I'm as guilty as anyone.

The mind (the mental aspect of the game) is so key to sports, all it takes is a couple of guys to start the ball rolling, and things just kind of take on a life of their own. Hitting, Winning, Losing... it's all contagious. WV last year, Huntsville this year... It doesn't matter what sport, and it's so hard to define... Look at the Houston Rockets and their win streak this year, that team had no business winning 10 in a row, much less 20+ if you just consider their raw talent level, but something kept them going. I love the unpredictable nature that the "intangibles" bring to sports. I know it's cliche, but it doesn't make it any less true. In baseball what you did last season, so far this season, heck even on the last pitch has no bearing on what's going to happen with the next pitch.

Gillespie started offf hitting .200 with no power last year as well, then wound up with very good Brevard numbers...

of course, to put an exclamation point on that, Mat Gamel only hit like 2 homers before the all-star break last year...
