Padres article mentions Tony Gwynn Jr

Here is another article of the Padres demise into the mess they are in now. It just seems to make sense for a Gwynn, Jr. and Maddux swap. The article says that the team has no speed, and their outfielders need to have the ability to cover the vast open spaces of Petco. At this point I wonder if Melvin is talking to Towers finally about this.

No Trade Clause or not, I would think a Maddux/Maddux reunion could be possible.

From the looks of Wolf's stats so far this year, he he's averaging around 6.0 innings/game and has only allowed 3 HR's. Hits are close to 7-8/game. Again, like someone said before about rather seeing Maddux out there every 5 days vs seeing McClung, I say the same about Wolf. That said, is there any other plan or trade partner that we could send TGJ to for someone better than Wolf?

Looking at the rosters of the teams with the worst records and at pitchers on those teams that will be free agents after the season, there really isn't. Washington has Odalis Perez and Tim Redding that they probably will move, but whether they have a need for a centerfielder is unclear. On Seattle, Miguel Batista and Jarrod Washburn each have 1 more season (at $9 million and $10.35 million respectively). The Giants don't have any pitching beyond Cain, Lincecum and Sanchez. The Rockies gave Aaron cook a three-year extension before the season. The Royals would probably be willing to move Brett Tomko, but again, would they need a centerfielder.

That makes it Odalis Perez, Tim Redding, Brett Tomko, Randy Wolf and Greg Maddux as the pitchers that could probably be traded for.

San Diego just makes the most sense if Gwynn is traded. They have a need for a speedy outfielder. Then there's the name factor.
