Mario Kart

GoudaBrew
So this game looks really awesome. Their website has some great videos and I can't wait to get it (I've got a gift card on Amazon and will be purchasing today). Who's played it? Is it as great as it looks? How is the Wii Wheel thing? Should I get a 2nd one right away?

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I like it a lot so far. The Wii Wheel definitely makes it more enjoyable, imo. I scooped up a 2nd one right away and haven't regretted it.

I like being able to race on motorcycles and scooters in addition to karts, it adds to the fun. Also, you can play other people online and compare your best times to other people, which is a nice touch.

I miss being able to get the double item boxes from Double Dash, but I have to say that it is probably the best Mario Kart yet (caveat: I haven't played the one for DS).

It rocks for Wii. Picked it up with a second wheel yesterday and played for a few hours after getting back from Wrigley last night. Also, the reviews (haven't done it myself yet) say the online gaming shows little to no lag in game play which is pretty sweet.

I'd recommend the game to anybody... It is quickly becoming my favorite Mario Kart (which is saying something because the N64 version is awesome). It's a lot of fun and the Wii Wheel is pretty sweet (I haven't tried it the other way yet, but a buddy of mine tried it w/ the nunchuk and used it for about half a race and went back to the wheel)... in fact I'm gonna go play some more right now. My roommate, who admitted he isn't a fan of Mario Kart (the older games) can barely put the thing down.

gypcasino - I've never really played any game online, let alone a Mario Kart, but how are they cheating? Do they have patches and such and therefore able to do things you can't or what?

Not cheating in that sense but playing so you have a constant turbo boost (or whatever it's called) all the time and not just around corners. There's a term for it. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'll have to check when I get home. All the gaming sites are blocked where I work.

Sweet....I can't wait, I just ordered the game and extra wheel. I too, loved the N64 game. We played that just as much as Halo in college and the game (and N64 in general ) was several years old by then.

Yeah, exactly. I found it on the Wikipedia-

"Snaking

The execution of several consecutive mini-turbos, by drifting back and forth across a straightaway is a technique known as "snaking", but is officially called a "Mini-Turbo".[4][/sup] Snaking was originally known as performing "Straight-Stretch Mini-Turbos" in the Mario Kart 64 era. Some people claim snaking as cheating, but others say this is a "skill" that is practiced on Wi-fi

A Nintendo of America official has personally described snaking as an intentional part of the game's design, considering that a similar technique could also be performed in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!."

Well, with the addition of the bikes you can now do a wheelie that gives you a short little boost so that is sorta similar and by design. It compensates by only allowing the bike to have one stage of power slide where as the cars have two. So people could still do that and have a greater advantage but from what I've played it wouldn't be beneficial to try and do that in the Wii version as the power slides take longer to boost up (at least in my racing experience). I've just been playing online and I haven't noticed anybody do it yet, but I've only raced like 5 races... It's freaking sweet though

The game rocks. I love it. The wheel thing is easy to pick up, and yes, if you can get a second right away. They have some of the old school courses, as well as new ones. It's a lot of fun.

This version of Mario Kart is great, and kinda feels like a greatest hits album, which a bunch of favorites with a couple new songs to make you buy the album. I do miss the individual weapons of each character that was in Dash. I also am having some problems with the Wii getting an error trying to connect sometimes, not quite as dependable as Xbox Live. However, once your on, you guys are correct thats its lag free. I am kinda shocked how bad most people are online, but that could be from playing last night around bar time.

Are you sure its not because you are awesome? Although I do have to agree with ya that the competitions isn't too stiff as I've been winning or finishing in the top 3 in 90% of the online races I've been in and I'm usually good but not great at video games. Some point in time we should get a tournament or just some races going on over the Nintendo WFC.

Anybody who is racing online have you been having a problem where you finish in a different place than where you are suppose to? Twice I've finished in first only to go to the score screen and be in a different place (2nd and 5th)... the first time I thought I must have just got passed at the end but from 1st to 5th and there was nobody near me... Just seeing if I'm crazy or others are having the problem as well.
