I did a Google Image search for 1988 Ford Escort, and this is what I found. I dont remember it hovering, but everything else looks right.

ha, I also had a 1988 Ford Escort, got it my junior year, got my only speeding ticket to date in it, drove it to freshman year at Platteville, it died during the first Christmas break. What a pile of crap. lol

It was a pile. I actually had the 1988 1/2 version. Blue wagon. The passenger door didnt open from the outside and the backdoors didnt open from the inside. We affectionately referred to it as the "deathscort"

Just awful.

I had a 2000 Ford Ranger. I was just about to make the 3rd to last payment, when a un-insured driver plowed through a red light and into me. Spun me around, flipped me over and took out a traffic signal. Best part was I got the bill from Milwaukee County for that signal, about $1700, 8 months later

That actually looks almost exactly what mine was like, except shinier. I even had the "rims" that looked like bike spokes. I got up to 90 once on the interstate and it started to shake, first and last time I did that.

My First car: 1991 Ford Escort GT! I had it for 10 years before I wouldn't bother trying to pass the emission test anymore.

I actually made money on the car. It was totaled twice while I owned it. Once, I gently rolled over in a ditch during a snowstorm. It was scratched all over, so it would of needed to be repainted. I bought the car for $5150, and I got like $4800 from insurance after driving it 3 years already. I didn't bother with repainting, because the scratches were small. The second time, after telling a co-worker's friend not to hit the blue car on his way out of a party - he did. His Dodge truck didn't hold up to well compared to my Escort. He had $8000 in damage. The Escort certainly wasn't pretty after that, but all I did was put in a $40 tie rod end to get it going again. The insurance company gave me $3200 that time.

I drove it for a few more years yet. I had some trouble passing emmisions, but got past it. The next time it was due for the test I decided I wasn't going to put anymore money into it. I sold it to a friend who does Enduro racing. I wanted the car to go out in style. She did, as he easily won the race with her. I always said that car should be in Ford's Hall of Fame. It was totaled 3 times (once before I bought it). I called it Christina for a while, because it just wouldn't die. I never really had any big problems with it either. I doubt I will have another car that I loved as much as that one. I sure miss it. So many stupid things were done in that car.

When I bought it, I had the nicest car in the high school parking lot. I paid cash for it, and I was so proud of it. Then within a month a lot of people started taking out loans to get a car. Mine didn't stack up as nice anymore. However, it was a pretty sweet, paid-off ride for a 16 year old kid. I sure had a lot of fun with it. I even took it to the drag strip once. I didn't give 'er too hard off the line, because I didn't want parts laying everywhere 75 miles from home. It still ran a shade over 80 mph. Closer to home where I paced off a 1/4 mile, I think I got 88mph. My friends always called it the Racecort or the Ott Rod. My last name is Ott.

Another fun fact: I have bought 3 cars and a truck. All 3 cars were purchased on the same day of the year pretty much by coincidence. The truck was off by exactly a month.

Edit: Years - Oct. 27, 1995 - Oct. 2005

I either drove my parents gray 1988 Olsmobile Cutlass Ciera or their 1986 maroon Cutlass Cierra. The 88 died after 90,000 miles.

My first car was a brand new 1995 Chevy Corsica that I got during college. That one died after 100,000 miles and 9 years. It went through brakes like water and had 7 intake manifold gaskets replaced during it's lifetime at $700 a pop. 2 were while it was still under warrantee. It got totalled 1 month after I paid it off (3 years old), but I was able to fix it with the insurance money.

No more crappy GM cars for me. I've got a 2004 Honda Accord and I couldn't be happier.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture but, a 1983 Buick LeSabre Station wagon with Maroon paint, fake wood paneling and a big block V8 to accompany the air horn.

Most humiliating driving experience of my life was Junior year (1995-96) I was elected to drive to lunch during exams which is the only open campus period all year at Brook Central because my wagon held the most people. The car still had power but the vacuum was failing the acceleration and as I turned from Calhoun onto Bluemound with the pedal on the floor sliding around the turn, one of my friends said to step on it. All I could do was turn around and say "I am."

That car emptied my wallet as it would only run on premium (~1.35 a gal, who wouldn't kill for that now?) and got 7 miles to the gallon. Senior year I was allowed to sell the wagon and buy a 1992 Plymouth Sundance which was my little white rocket two door. Since then a whole bunch of vehicles bringing me to my current ride I bought last May, a 2001 Acura MDX Touring Package.

I didn't even get my license until I was like 21 or 22, so my ride was the city bus in Milwaukee. I had a couple motorcycles (and a Vespa) when I was a teenager but didn't ride them often because I had no license. I've never minded being late to things so I didn't mind having to wait around for the bus. Finally, my girlfriend (now wife) made me get a license so I could help with the driving duties on trips back to Milwaukee from Minneapolis. The first car I owned was a 1997 Dodge Intrepid (that was the color too):

I liked it a lot, the trunk was spacious and it drove pretty nicely for a Dodge.

I had three cars all through high school that i paid $400, $300 and $800 for.

1982 Nissa Stanza with 185,000 miles on it. It was Silver and lasted 1-1/2 years

1979 Malibu Classic - Didnt go in reverse when tranny was hot, cloth on the ceiling sagged and had to be held up with push pins, lasted 9 months

1982 Pontiac Firebird - Rust on all the fenders, dent in one, remade crappy tranny, but had t-tops and was fun. Sold a 2 years later.

(All Cars pictured are not mine and are in much better shape then the ones I had.)

For my first car, I rocked a 1983 AMC Eagle Station Wagon. One of the first 4WD cars! It was truely embarrassing to drive, but my dad had a thing for them...he owned four while I was in school. Yes, it had the wood panels

I eventually saved up enough money, and bought a 1989 Chevy Blazer S-10. That was a nice car/truck. I had that up until my second year in college, when I sold it and bought a 1992 Eagle Talon AWD. Incredibly fast, sweet-looking car, but stuff seemingly broke on it every other week. I loved that car, though.

The 1980 Chevette. Imagine it in two-tone blue (light blue top half, navy bottom half.) This is circa 1992.

It had a rusted-out floor on the driver's side. I put a panel of stainless steel in there so I could put my feet somewhere, but you could lift that thing up and watch the road go by.

After the 'Vette burned out it sixth(!) starter in less than a year, I moved on. I had a 1980 Mazda GLC, then a 1980 Honda Prelude. The Honda was a nice ride, but had rust problems and a minor accident turned into a total for that reason. Then there was the 1984 Renault Alliance... then the '72 Super Beetle... ah, my cars (and my misfortune therewith.)

Teal '94 Ford Tempo. This isn't the one I had, but it looked just like this; the teal was just hilarious. It shook whenever it got over 65. I drove it until repairs cost more than it was worth. I believe I "sold" it to a garage for $75.

I inherited a 1989 Turquoise Chevy Cavalier 2-door stick shift from my older brother that had lace striping custom painted down the side. No kidding, there was a 3 inch wide stripe of white lace painting. "The Lacemobile." I junked it in 2001 when I bought my first Ford Focus. All things considered, that lacey beast served us well. It was 12 years old when I drove it between New Orleans (college) and here a few times. Trusty steed!

I started out driving a 1986 Buick Electra Station Wagon (it was powder blue instead of white)

Then toward the end of High School I drove a 1979 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, like this one, but it was white with the black top and had white walled wheels. Needless to say, it was my favorite car to drive, considering it was a Caddy and had a 5.7 L V8 engine too.

My high school ride was Mr. Left Foot and Mr. Right Foot - next to nobody had their own car to get to school where I'm from.

My first car though was a 1986 Ford Escort station wagon - plenty of room to fit DJ gear in!

a Red 1992 Dodge Spirit. When ever you stepped on the brakes too hard (or really at all for that matter), the engine would die. It was never fun when it died as I was pulling into my high school's parking lot. It took about a month of this before I convinced my dad to get the engine rebuilt. The car lasted another good 5 years after that before dieing about 4 years ago. It must have had 150,000 or so miles on it before it finally kicked the bucket for good.
