Interesting post-game baserunning notes from Ned.

There was no 2xsteal -- Prince was running on his own, Hardy decided to break on his own.

Contact play was on with Hall -- Yost said that was a mistake.

Yost thought H&R with Graffy/Bush was great aggressive baseball -- and "they are trying to win games". Ned talked as if "safe baseball" is the worst thing he could do.

It happens. The Brewers will learn from this loss.

What lessons will they learn from this loss? Not to give up a 4 run inning and back-to-back jacks? We just got beat today; not too much you can take away from this one.

I'm not going to harp on this, but I really think games like these highlight the lack of consistent offense this team is demonstrating thus far. When you have a big bat like Braun's spoiling away in AAA and could essentially shore up the weakest production spot in the order by position, why not look into doing it? Like someone said, we're winning games so they're hesitant to make changes, but there's always room for improvement when it comes to hitting.

Agreed, as much as I hate to say it, the Brewers can be beat and tonight was a good example of that.

Where's the props for Spurling and his scoreless 1 2/3 innings? The guy's got the ERA down to 3.18. Hopefully he can keep it that way.

Did anyone else notice the woman sitting in the front row, right behind home plate during the game?

To quote Jackie Chiles:

"So we got an attractive woman, wearing a bra, no top, walkin'

around in broad daylight. She's flouting society's conventions!....That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, vesivius, salacious, outrageous!"

And +2 for the Seinfeld quote.

On the bright side tonight, Turnbow and Coco are now on four full days of rest. Should be plenty fresh for when they are finally needed.

Baserunning garbage and a bad inning in a close game...chalk it up to "You can't win 'em all" and keep moving.

Splitter has summed it up nicely for me - as has bigredrobbo (one of the 50 games every team loses). Didn't make me happy, but didn't make me mad either.

On the way home the radio gave us the timeless lyrics of Chumbawamba:

I get knocked, down but I get up again

You're never gonna keep me down.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

this game really hurts. Getting thrown out at home twice, and Yost leaving Bush in too long cost us the game. I didn't go through this whole thread, but I have no idea why even after the first homer he left him in to give up #2 and still let him finish the inning.

If Yost wouldn't of let Wise pitch 2 innings on wednesday, he could of did the 7th.

I know Yost has done an excellent job so far this year, but this one was not his greatest. Hopefully the team responds well tonight

I am quite surprised by a lot of the posts in this thread. The knee-jerk reactions when things don't go well is kind of annoying. I would expect that from Cubs fans. Here are some of the complaints that I've seen:

1. Why did they do the double steal? - As mentioned earlier, Yost didn't call for it. Fielder went on his own. Blame Fielder, not Yost. Don't assume all calls come from the dugout. There are young players on the team that will make mistakes.

2. Why hit and run with Bush up? - He is a good hitting pitcher, that only needs to make contact. Last time I remember them running that with Bush up, he lined a double in the gap that scored a run. Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't.

3. Why did Yost keep Bush in, in the 7th? - He had given up a total of 2 hits before that inning. The 2nd double was a flare that just happened to find grass. If Bush had so obviously lost it, then how come he struck out the last batter of the inning so easily? He made 2 bad pitches.

Nobody was calling for a pitching change Wednesday when Villanueva walked a guy, and hit a guy to load the bases. That's more of a sign of losing it, than what Bush was showing yesterday. But, since he got out of it, that was a good move, and since Bush hung a pitch, that was a bad move.

I realize it can be frustrating when the Brewers lose, but please keep everything in perspective. The Brewers will lose games, the young guys will make mistakes, and sometimes pitchers don't get outs when they're supposed to.

Good job Spurling, hopefully this performance doesn't instill any confidence in Ned Yost regarding your use.

So far this season when Bush loses it in the later inning it's gone. I was calling to have someone up in the pen at least soft tossing for a rapid warm up in case Bush started to look shaky. Granted I don't know if I would have pulled him after the HR, but after he gave up the Jack and was ~100 pitches I would have pulled him.

Base running HAS to improve. I love aggressive base running, but a few of those plays were just horrible.

In theory I agree -- however, I think that Yost has instilled an "agressive baserunning" ethos with the club -- the Brewers have been making a lot of base-running blunders -- at the end of the day, that should end up as Ned's responsibility.

He is a good hitting pitcher,

A good hitting pitcher is generally still a bad, hitter and

makes a H&R much more of a gamble

Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't.

You can say this about any event regardless if the outcome is good or bad... The bad idea about this -- you have the top of your lineup coming up, Bush, while a good hitting pitcher, is a weak H&R candidate overall. It's better to bunt IMO, and give the top of your lineup an opportunity to hit with a RISP -- Heck, it would have even been smarter to let Bush hit away.

If Bush had so obviously lost it, then how come he struck out the last batter of the inning so easily?

He struck out the pitcher -- who has 20Ks in 33 ABs -- that is the simple answer.

But, since CV got out of it, that was a good move, and since Bush hung a pitch, that was a bad move.

CV outside of his first appearance, has been a lot more reliable than Bush -- I would tend to have a quicker hook (6+ ERA) with Bush than I would with CV.
