I don't get this at all. Soup is cruising along, only around 85 pitches and 2 hits today through 6 2/3, and he gives up a little dribbler single and immediately gets the hook?

As Jim pointed out, you've got a lefty killer in the pen and Suppan is prone to giving up HR, one swing could tie it. If Shouse does the job here. Brewers just have one more inning to get though to get it to you closer. I wish Suppan could have gotten that last out, but smart move.

Well, one swing tied it all right.

He was facing Lefty, Lefty, Pinch Hitter, Lefty. That is a very good time to put Shouse in the game. That was not a bad move, it was a move that did not work. Shouse wasn't going to be the guy to face Griffey/Dunn regardless because they are likely to come up with Gagne in the game if Shouse makes that out.

Ned seems to pull his pitchers 3 batters too late or a few batters too early. I thought Suppan was pitching better than he

has at any time as a Brewer. Let him go another inning and give the bullpen some rest.

I think there is a group of fans who are willing to crucify Ned no matter what he does.. now I know there were people that were against the move when it happened but either way if Votto hits a HR vs. Shouse or Suppan, there will be 3 - 4 pages talking about what a dumb decision.

What baffles me is how many times I've seen Yost sitting in the dugout, watching ants run around on the dugout floor, as Bush gets shelled in the 6th or 7th.

Then the one time he actually makes a move immediately, it's when Suppan is rolling at 85 pitches, and it backfires.

Bingo, if Suppan gives up that 2 run HR I'm on the boards complaining that Yost stayed with Suppan too long when he has struggled later in games on a regular basis and we had 3 lefties and a pinch hitter left to face and no other lefties until Gagne time.

I don't understand the move at all. It seems like Ned didn't want Suppan to get a no decision so when he gave up a seeing-eye single and the tying run came to the plate he said okay, I don't care how well you were pitching before, you're done.

Exactly. So what if you don't have Shouse for the ninth against Griffey and Dunn in the ninth. If Shouse does the job, they're Gange's to face.

And now when Griffey and Dunn get back up in the bottom of the 9th, our lefty option is ... Stetter?
The plan was to have a 3-1 lead in the 9th and have Gagne face Griffey and Dunn for the save.
It was the absolute right move. It just didn't work
If Suppan gives up the 2 run homer to Votto the thread is 10 pages longer criticizing Yost for letting Suppan face the lefty with a dominant lefty spcialist in the bullpen.
Strategy was right. Just didn't work out.
Let's get some runs!
