Bedard and Borowski to DL

If I remember correctly there was some talk about Milwaukee going after Bedard this off-season. He apparently has a hip injury, so not as serious as an arm issue.

I don't know. This isn't the first time beard has had an issue with his hip. Have to start wondering if it's going to be chronic.

Borowski is brutal as a closer. Don't know how he had 45 saves last season with an ERA over 5.

Probably because the Indians were a really good team last year- IIRC he also led the league in BS

It's probably time to put the number of saves in the team category. Save % is probably a better way to evaluate ability. Though even then save type needs to be in the evaluation. I'd be interesting to see how many of the mulitple run save types he had vs one run ones.

The irony here is the Orioles almost nixed the Bedard deal because of concerns with Adam Jones' hip!

 

Since his first cup of coffee in 2002 Bedard has made more that 28 starts only once. He's never made it to 200 innings and only topped 141 twice. A really good pitcher if he's healthy, but that's tough for him to maintain throughout a full season.

According to Baseball-reference.com he came in to pitch the 9th with a one run lead 16 times (3 times in innings 10+), a two run lead 14 times (3 in innings 10+), a three run lead 14 times (1 in innings 10+). He only appeared in 9 games where his team was either down (2 times) or had a lead of 4 or more. He also came into the 9th in a tied game 6 times and appeared in extras three times with the score tied.
