Santana's just not an Ace anyways.

He's 4-4. Aces find a way to win even when the team doesn't score for them.

For comparison...Ben Sheets is 4-2. Now that's an Ace.

Great win, really needed it. Should be a 3-4 road trip, though, never should've let that 4 run lead get away from us on Monday. A 3-0 kegstand would help me to forget.

But it does show why there is a housing collapse in this country. I mean housing increased increased in value on average about 1% per year in real terms for decades. But since for a few years you were getting 5-7% real returns, well that must be the new situation and that rate of growth will continue for ever.

Similarly, Gwynn won't hit .400 for ever and Gross will hit above .170. Which means that Gwynn is in store for a drop off and Gross for a spike.

Good win. Nice to see Sheets do the job and send us home with a win.

I tivoed the game and watched it when I got home. That double in the 9th was hammered. Can't believe it hit the top of the wall. Great call by the umps, though. They were spot on correct.

Hope to see 2 or 3 wins this weekend on the tube.

Go Brewers!

Ok Bucksman4... that pretty much settles it huh? Sheets is an ace right?

I called Sheets out yesterday when I wrote the second post on this thread saying that an ace's job is to stop a losing streak. I give Benny 100% credit for doing just that.

My early critique of him was that he gets in trouble because his fastball is fast but really has little if no movement to it. In the yahoo recap the following was posted:

Victorino said Sheets baffled the Phillies.

"He seems like he's hittable because his ball is so straight," Victorino said. "But he's not. You see the ball, but you can't put a swing on it."

I was able to watch this on MLB.TV and when asked during the game how Sheets looked, I gave him the due diligence and complimented him on his good stuff today. I want him to succeed as much as the next Brewer fan does, and I call it as I see it. Hopefully, there'll be a lot more of these W's from Big Ben.

Exactly, a true ace will bunt their way on, steal 2nd, steal 3rd, and get sacrificed in when their team isn't hitting... ot he'll just hit a HR themself. Now that's a real ace!

I see a lot of these posts mocking fans who think pitchers have no control over wins. Sheets proved today that while run support may be limited, he understood that each and every pitch needed to be almost perfect in order to maintain the slim lead his team provided for him. Thus, he did have a say in whether he got the W or the L. He knew that his team wasn't going to score a whole bunch of runs so it's the job of the 'ace' to shut 'em down and lock the door on a close game.
