4/13/2008 Non-Brewers IGT: Jenkins batting lead-off for Phillies, Cubs steal a win today!

Hmm, interesting. Charlie Manuel has Jenkins in the 1 hole today against the Cubs.

With a 4-2 lead & no one out in the top of the 6th, Piniella just had Ryan Theriot steal. The Phils pitched out, and Theriot was out by two full steps. I think, on balance, that I'd take Lou over Yost, but one thing Brewers fans have working for them is Lou's belief, er, 'knowledge' that putting runners in motion > outs surrendered by putting runners in motion.

He loves to hit-&-run, to 'get things going.' I have a feeling that wasted outs such as the Theriot example today, could help play a role in deciding the NL Central. I have many beefs with Ned Yost, but fortunately he at least values his outs. Sure, he'll mix in the rare double-steal or hit-&-run, but imo he does that crap much less frequently than most MLB skippers.

Oh, and after the 3B ump incorrectly called a Mark DeRosa foul flyball a HR, Eric Bruntlett just came up in the bottom of the 6th... first pitch off Wuertz he went yard. It's now 4-3, Phils trail.

right now, you have to question how early & often Lou has gone to his pen. Marmol has been way overworked, and they went to the pen early yet again in the 6th today.. considering all the extra innings games, it is only a matter of time before those arms are done.

He pretty much needs to though because their rotation isnt that good and its being compounded by them not pitching well.

I don't know. I've followed a few of the games and thought he had a pretty quick trigger finger at times.

Today, Marquis' pitch count was high after 5 innings, at 86.. but did he need to go to the pen at 86 pitches, with the starter having given 2 over 5 innings. That's unnecessary to me when you are trying to save your pen.

Marquis was absolutely terrible, the fact he somehow only gave up 2 runs doesn't change that. He pitched as poorly as Suppan did.

I don't mind seeing the Tigers choke. Everyone felt sorry for them when they were horrible. Then, they built from within, and with a couple extra free agents they made a run at world series appearance. This past offseason, they spend millions upon millions and bring in the "best" players they can get their greedy hands on. Serves them right, i see no difference between them and teams like the Yankees and Red Sox. Trying to buy a championship.

I'm glad it's not working out.

Just saw the highlights on baseball tonight. DeRosa hit a HR in the 6th that was clearly a foot foul! The umps got together and discussed yet still called it a HR. The Cubs went on to win in the 10th. Obviously without that HR they never would have made it to the 10th. I hope this is not a sign of how things are going to go this year? How many times last year did the Cubs pull out games late that they had no business winning? I am not sure how an ump that is standing down the 3rd base line can miss the call that badly?

Suppan gave up 6 runs to Marquis' 2. Suppan both LOOKED awful and GAVE UP RUNS; not so much for Marquis. With how quickly he's gone to the pen all year, it should start to take its toll soon. He should be trying to get his starters to eat up innings, and Marquis could have been good for another 2 yet. The guy replacing him gave up 3 immediately without recording an out.

Yea, we got a few breaks today too. It will go both ways. Also, Utley booted a DP ball, and Lee made a fantastic play in the 9th.

And the game tying hit was a Willie Mays Hayes-esque "excuse me" check swing.

and Marquis could have been good for another 2 yet.

Have you ever had strep throat? Marquis did this week. I'm actually quite amazed that he was able to pitch at all because I've had strep throat and know that there was no way I could have handled any physical activity 3 or 4 days later.
