Can you negotiate prices on Appliances?

aracko

We need a new dryer and my wife wants a matching set. I cant really complain - a matching set would look nice. My question is, can you negotiate with Salesmen from American or Sears or wherever? Does anyone have any negotiating techniques? Is the difference in the price coming off the saleman commission or the departments bottom line? How much Wiggle room is there?

Suggestions are more than welcome.

its not really negotiating as it is playing them off each other. For example you go to Best Buy and say AMerican will sell me this at this price, can you match or do better etc. It is just like buying a car.

Just a heads up though (I'm not sure if this deal is nationwide or not), but Home Depot is having some crazy sales. Free delivery, gift cards, $50 off when opening a credit card account, 10% off, and zero payments or interest until January 2009 with purchases $299 & up. By far that was the best deal going on where I live and in comparison Lowe's had just free delivery. With the economy the way it is there are deals to be had out there.

2 years ago, we needed a new fridge....had no money, but ended up getting a credit card with Home Depot. 0% for 6 months and we got it paid off. Same thing when we needed a new dryer. That's probably the best way to go, but good luck negotiating!!

Here's two articles that will be useful to you in negotiaitng and yes, you can certainly do it at the big box stores right now. I used to work for Best Buy and employees were told they have the freedom to do what is possible to make a deal. You have to do your homework on exactly what you want to buy and know the prices and model # differences as many appliances are the same, yet they get diff model #'s based on who is selling them.

Well my wife went and bought it without me. She did not negotiate but she did get word that American will likely replace our television for free since we have had such a long repair record with it.

All in all - I am pleased I guess. I will remember this when I go get something new though.
