Lofton to Cleveland

Can someone explain to me how Cleveland can get Lofton for a class A catcher, and we get a solid reliever for a top prospect, and two other prospects?

I know I'm missing something, because Lofton is a player that actually would have helped a ton in the lead-off spot down the stretch and he cost almost nothing. Instead we get a player who can be marginal contributor and give up something much more substantial than a class A catcher.
