Bill Hall stealing bases

as long as you have speed, base stealing is something you can become good at. His CS numbers from previous seasons don't mean much imo.

Sorry, that comment should've been blue. But it was immediately after the pickoff that Zambrano left the game holding his hand, wasn't it? Perhaps I misremember. Bill Hall is obviously far from the best base stealer and base runner on the team. I wouldn't quite chain him to first base (or second) like we wanted to do with Brady Clark (who one season had a 13-2 rate, which shocked me, it was back in '03 i think. been a few minutes now), but certainly we don't want him attempting as often as Rickie Weeks or Corey Hart. If they pick their spots with him, i.e. against pitchers and/or catchers who are bad at defending against the steal, those would be times for Hall to run. Going against (I dont know if he's still good and they won't play him anyways, right?) Ivan Rodriguez, I'd prefer for us to not steal at all with anyone.

Minors: 84/141 = 59.6%

 

Majors: 43/72 = 59.7%

 

Bill is in his age 28 season. He's not going to magically discover how to not stink at basestealing. Bill does a lot of things well, but stealing bases is not one of them. Speed has so much less to do with stealing than timing & picking the right situation in which to run. Speed obviously makes basestealing easier, but that's the part you can't learn. Having speed doesn't mean you can learn the jumps/timing/instincts.
