Rickroll the Mets

Recommended Posts

This was posted in a baseball community on livejournal, too. It would be awesome if the internet-savvy peeps made this happen.

Eh rickrolling got played out like over a year ago for me. It's everywhere now, really ridiculous.

How exactly did this add to the thread?

Just the guy's opinion. Everything moves pretty fast on the net, I thought this was over and done with too but it seems to have popped up everywhere lately.

Anyway, I started to vote but that's a lot of information they ask for...yeah, I'd fake it but it's lot of effort. I'm sure the internet will pick up my slack.

If I were talking about if Rickrolls were funny or not, that would be one thing. It's like when we used to have people saying "Nascar sucks" in Nascar threads or "wrestling sucks" in wrestling threads. If you don't want to do it and think it's played out, so be it, no reason to poo poo the thread. I've known about Rickrolling since the beginning as well, but it's still funny to a large group of people.

Well, if you're asking what it adds to the thread, I'd just submit that it adds more than someone just writing "Hahahahaha that's awesome" or whatever. He gave his reasons why he didn't want to do it, I don't think it was as simple as "Rickrolling sucks."

I mean, I go out of my way to not open threads about NASCAR or whatever and it always annoys me when someone comes into, say, a soccer thread just to say "Soccer sucks" but then again the topics are there for everyone's discussion, not just for those who hold the same opinions I do.

Anyway, I went ahead and voted just now after all.

My buddy kept texting me the lyrics to the song last night. Neither of us had ever heard of Rickrolling until I saw this thread this morning. We just always talked about the song because it was a joke on the first season of "Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia."

ummm it worked.....

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2008/04/runoff-to-determine-mets-new-8.html

The organization received 5 million votes on its Web site after inviting fans to choose from among 10 selections to potentially replace Sweet Caroline. An issue arose, however, when FARK.com readers bombarded the Mets with gag votes for a write-in candidate: Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up.

The Astley tune actually won.

Rather than commit to that as the new eighth-inning tune since it probably doesn't reflect the fan base's wishes, the Mets will play the top six selections once apiece during the first six games of their home stand. The one that draws the largest crowd response will stick.

The other songs that made the cut, in descending order: Livin' on a Prayer, Bon Jovi; I'm a Believer, The Monkees; Movin' Out, Billy Joel; Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond; and Build Me Up Buttercup, The Foundations.

The Mets suggested the Fark tune winning didn't necessarily result in the runoff, saying the contest rules stipulated Internet voters would "help decide" the outcome.
