Weird stuff from Opening Day

splitterpfj
The drive in was horrible. I know early bid gets the worm and all that, but with all the parking passes that they sold, it should have been a quick flash and go. Not sure why it had to take 50 minutes to get from 51st and National to get into a parking spot.

My biggest issues with opening day or even the day before is that ridiculous outfit that Prince is trying to pass off as a baseball uniform. When did MLB lose sight of what "uniform" meant. It loosly means "the same". How is it that some of these guys can come out looking like they are wearing pajamas and others look like balls players? I salute Kapler, Juan Pierre, Jason Veritek, etc and whoever else wears the uniform the way its supposed to be worn. I'm tired of these guys showing up to play ball with sloppier uniforms than what I'm wearing just to watch them on TV.

There, I feel better. Ban the pajamas!!!!!!!!!

I don't necessarily like Prince's pants either, but what does a ball player look like? The first thing I thought of when I saw Prince's pants the other day was Babe Ruth. So was Babe Ruth not a ball player? That's how many players wore their uniforms back in the day. So I guess going by that, maybe that IS how uniforms are supposed to be worn and everyone else should change.

I thought it was awful that as of 11am the general parking lots were closed even if you had pre-purchased the $8 passes like they had suggested. I took the shuttle from SFP and several people on my bus said they ended up paying twice, the $8 pass they couldn't use and the $5 to park at SFP. Not too many drunks where I was in the club level, but that's usually the case in those seats (which is why I like them).

I thought overall it was fine. We didn't have too much problem getting in, as we left Waukesha a little after 10 AM and were in the parking lot drinking by 11 AM. We had pre-purchased preferred parking in advance.

I didn't think the drunks were too bad...frankly, there were less annoying people in the stands than at the exhibition game we went to last Friday. People in the parking lot around us were pretty nice. Yeah, most of the crowd was a little late getting in, but by the first pitch, the park was pretty full, so who really cares?

olsonnet- I was actually wondering this when we got in around 1045 am yesterday. I noticed that they didn't seem to have a plan to stop selling parking passes at any point to people who hadn't bought the advanced passes, so I figured some who had bought them would end up being screwed when it was supposed to guarentee a parking spot.

I liked Prince's outfit because Cub fans hated it and it gives him a little extra character (not that he didn't already have enough). I hope Braun stops swinging at everything. They could pay me to do that, but I know he'll come around.

I have to hand it to the usher in my section. He had the police boot the five idiots a couple rows in front of us and then the game was enjoyable. One guy was so passed out that when the police tried to wake him, I thought he might be dead. His buddy was standing up the entire time with his cellphone to his ear(he did not appear to be talking to anyone) and screaming obscenities. The other three were the whistle group. They brought a metal whistle and were blowing it as loud as they could without regards to the game and only stopped to begin their drunken obscenity laced tirades.

My favorite was the plastered young lady that was so far gone she could not even come close to clapping to the beat of the various game chants. She was not forced out, but disappeared when her buddies were hauled off.

Did anyone else notice that they did not seem to show the two fisted slobper video?

I went the same way. The problem was that the idiots directing traffic at National and Miller Park Way would let about 500 times as many cars through from the other directions before waving ahead any traffic from National.

I was in the next section over and had the same thoughts. I thought it was hilarious when the one moron who was making the most noise gave this "who, me?" look to the cop and then had to climb over the fat, passed out guy to get out.

Also I swear the PA announcer said "Gabe Kaplan" during Kapler's first at bat.

We were on Bluemound/Hawley at 9:20 AM and probably didn't get parked until almost 10 AM.

So Robb Edwards is a big Kotter fan?

I was up in the Terrace in section 430 and most everyone around me was very well behaved. Some knucklehead started a fight in the Terrace Box below us and the police responded pretty quickly but other than that it wasn't as much of a drunken free for all as I've witnessed in the past. I mean, yeah plenty of people were trashed and acting stupid in the lots and there were 500 people in line for 5 Port O Potties but that's been the case for awhile now. I think the difficulty in getting tickets kept some of the bad element out of the actual game.

I think that's why we're seeing more "entrepreneurs" popping up in the lot with their facilities. Behind my tailgate was the guy with a camoflague deer blind (mini-tent) that had two buckets inside and in front of my tailgate were the girls who were utilizing a towel for modesty (ha!), doubledoors on a pickup truck and a large bottle of Tide. Also seen was the guy with a personal port-a-john on the back of his pickup.

The 5 bucks I paid for using the tent sure beat waiting in line for over 30 minutes. Besides, I had to tend the grill.

I'm disgusted and cracking up at the same time.

Ah, beer. Ah, Wisconsin.

As always, I had a great time. I like to tip a few beers back myself on Opening Day, but I didn't think things got too out of hand as I've seen in the past (the bleachers at County Stadium were an absolute mess year-after-year, and I've yet to see anything that comes close to matching that mass-drunkeness). I met some really nice, talkative people in the stadium, including the group that will be sitting right next to me for my 9-game pack for the rest of the season (one of which is a Cubs fan, a knowledgeable Cubs fan that I enjoyed talking about baseball in general with). There was one idiot in the parking lot who tried to drive his car around the port-o-lets after the game and got stuck while also driving over a few of those bean-bag games, only to spew mud everywhere trying to get out of the rut he made. Despite the fact that he wore his pants well below his waist and enjoyed showing his butt-crack to the world, despite our loud urgings not to, Opening Day was another day in which fun was had by all.

Sorry 'bout that, folks!
