Doug Davis has thyroid cancer

Did anybody post this yet?

from Yahoo! Sports:

Despite being diagnosed with thyroid cancer last week, Doug Davis is committed to staying in the Arizona Diamondbacks' starting rotation until his operation. And even after the procedure, he is not planning on staying out of the game for long.

Davis makes his first start of the season Thursday when the Diamondbacks look to bounce back from a disappointing loss to the Cincinnati Reds in the final game of this three-game series at Great American Ball Park.

On Feb. 6, doctors discovered a lump in Davis' throat during a routine physical, and on Feb. 27, biopsy results revealed it to be cancerous.

Davis will have his thyroid gland removed on April 10 and is expected to be out of the hospital the day after the operation, Diamondbacks head physician Dr. Michael Lee said. The team doesn't have a projected return date for Davis, but Lee said it could be within four to six weeks.

"It's going to take me down for a while but not out for good," said Davis, who went 12-13 with a 4.25 ERA in 33 starts last season, his first with Arizona.
