Wow, Mike Adams just pitched 2 scoreless innings for the Padres! I was wondering where he went. I was at the game in SF a few years back when he got pulled and Turnbow eventually came in to get the save and take over the closer role. Unbelievable that at the time Adams was our best option to close until Turnbow took over. I'll never forget the nervous look on his face. Yikes.

RHP Mark James, the Brewers 14th round pick out of the Toronto area in 2005, was only 17 years old when he signed with Milwaukee. Despite that, patience was thin, and he was released after two summers in Maryvale. He just signed with Quebec of the independent Can-Am League.

 

By the way, you've gotta love trades like this (non Brewer-related), but good stuff --

 

Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League: Traded RHP John Odom to the Laredo Broncos of the United League for 10 Prairie Sticks Maple Bats, double-dipped black 34 inch C243 style.

Yet we were fine with the way Turnbow finished the year? I highly doubted beaning 1 batter would ruin wise's career. That would be a little far fetched.

 

...not that hitting one guy is going to 'ruin' a career...it was how he pitched after that. Going into the season, Milwaukee came up with (at the time) better options then Matt. I'm certainly not rooting against the guy, but I think it is understandable why DM, et al. wanted to go a different direction.

I wasn't 'fine' with how Turnbow finished last year, but I guess DM was. I guess the point I was trying to make about Matt was not that hitting one batter is going to ruin his career, but that how he pitched for the remainder of last season simply made it rather hard for the brain-trust to have him included as an option this year. Maybe that was the wrong decision, but certainly logical.

Scott Linebrink has been unable to pitch for several days because of migraine headaches.

''I believe him because he's a real religious guy,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. ''Someone else tells me they have a migraine, I know they are hung over.''

If he would have went for it, I would have signed Linebrink to be the closer, for about 40% of the price CoCo signed for. We'll never know, because Scott signed before Frankie. That 4th year might have been hard to swallow, but compared to Cordero...

LHP Craig Breslow remains in the big leagues, claimed on waivers by the Twins after his outright by Cleveland (the Indians had done the same via the Red Sox this March). This will be the 27-year-old's 4th big league team, and fifth organization, having begun with the Brewers. The Crew will likely see him during interleague play.

RHP Marino Salas (Salomon Torres trade, along with RHP Kevin Roberts) had a brief first taste of big league ball with the Pirates, optioned back to AAA, allowing seven runs and 13 hits in nine innings over seven outings.

Glendon Rusch is supposed to be called up by the Rockies to make a start on Saturday. Not officially announced yet. I didn't realize he had changed organizations but apparently the Rockies claimed him after his DFA by the Padres earlier this year.

 

Ray King and Jorge Sosa signed minor-league contracts with Houston.

 

Grant Balfour back to the major leagues with Tampa Bay. From mlb.com, "Balfour has been virtually unhittable in Durham, going 1-0 with a 0.38 ERA and collecting eight saves in 15 appearances. Opponents at Triple-A were hitting just .067 off Balfour, and the righty allowed just one run in 23 2/3 innings."

Balfour... I've always thought that if he didn't get squeezed for the walks in that first outing that things would have been much different for him in Milwaukee... It just snowballed him after that. Maybe he's a 4A type, but I really liked his stuff, and I still root for him. Then again it's possible I'm just a sucker for a good story.

He throws hard, but I would say much of talent is taking advantage of the bigger strike zone in AAA, as he always struggles with control in the bigs.

I can't believe the Mets, supposedly a contender, called up Abraham Nunez. If the Brewers had done such a thing, I think I would have lit my hair on fire just to take my mind off the fact that Nunez would be on the team.

The Toronto Blue Jays recalled pitcher Brian Wolfe from Syracuse of the International League (AAA).

 

On January 6, 2006 Wolfe was traded to the Blue Jays for 3B Corey Koskie.

Drew Anderson was outrighted off of Cincinnati's 40-man roster, but is still with AAA Louisville.
