Baseball America:

Diamondbacks Release David Krynzel

Nine pro seasons in and Krynzel, the Brewers' first-round pick (11th overall) in 2000, hasn't come close to establishing himself in the big leagues. He accrued just 48 career at-bats with Milwaukee. Things aren't even that rosy on the minor league side, where Krynzel, 26, owns .268/.346/.399 averages and 199 steals, but more strikeouts than you'd like to see from a leadoff type.

LHP Brandon Parillo, a promising shorter southpaw who could force ground balls wonderfully (8th round, 2004), but was released in spring training 2007 after injuries derailed his efforts, has signed with Kalamazoo (MI) of the independent Frontier League.

SS Brad Miller, just released by the Brewers this spring, has signed with the Traverse city (MI) Beach Bums of the same league.

RHP Jeff Farnsworth (AAA Indianapolis, 2004) signed with Southern Maryland of the independent Atlantic League.

RHP Alec Zumwalt signed with Camden (NJ) of the Atlantic League.

RHP Dane Renkert has signed for a second season of ball with Fargo-Moorhead of the independent Northern League.

RHP Reggie Rivard, who pitched at three levels of the Brewer system in 2004, spent the 2005 - 2007 seasons with Edmonton of the Northern League. For 2008, the native Canadian has made his way to Calgary of the independent Golden Baseball League.

Steve Palazzolo, the 6' 10" RHP released by the Brewers last Spring is 1-0 in 7IP 2H 0R 6BB 9K with a .095Avg for the Connecticut Defenders, AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Got to know this guy while he was in Charleston and he was pretty serious about his game....I'd say keep an eye on this guy this season!

OF Jason Tuttle has re-signed with Sioux City of the independent American Association. Tuttle will always have a place in West Virginia Power history. The former Montreal Expo farmhand (he had played at Brevard County as an Expo) had been signed by the Crew and was assigned to be the Opening Day center fielder for the Power in their inaugural season of 2005. Tuttle led the way with an OPS of .000 in 24 AB's as the entire Power squad made a dishonorably memorable Brewer debut in Charleston. Tuttle was then released.

To Jason's credit, the 5'8", 160 lb.-er has kept his career alive in the indy ranks ever since.

By the way, we mentioned RHP Dane Renkert, the budding journalist, in our alumni thread a few posts back. Hadn't realized just how good he was as a starter in 2007, although it di not land him an affiliated gig.

Infielder Ryan Barba, released in spring training, has signed with Yuma (AZ) of the independent Golden Baseball League, where he will be a teammate of former Brewer farmhand and fellow infielder Hector Bernal, who spent 2007 with Yuma.

C Brian Munhall, the final cut from the Nashville squad this spring, has signed with Bridgeport (CT) of the independent Atlantic League, as has OF Bobby Darula.

From the Bridgeport site: Darula, 33, was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1996. He is entering his thirteenth season of professional baseball and third season with the Bluefish. Last season in 32 games as the Bridgeport designated hitter, Darula compiled a .265 average with 20 RBIs, six stolen bases, and 14 runs. The Greenwich native has a career .313 average in the minor leagues.

RHP Gerrit Simpson was placed on the inactive list of Gary (IN), in the independent Northern League.

Rotoworld:

Royals designated RHP Hideo Nomo for assignment.

It would have been a nice story if Nomo could have made a successful comeback as a reliever, but the fastball wasn't there and the Royals should have known it after watching him this spring. He had an 18.69 ERA in 4 1/3 innings.

Old friend RHP Chris Saenz has signed with Schaumburg (IL) of the independent Northern League.

OF Bobby Darula

Man, that guy brings back some great memories of a darker time in the Brewers' minor league system.

I actually saw Darula on some tv commercial recently. It showed this basically anonymous guy taking swings in the batting cage, then he goes and pitches the product and the name Bob Darula is shown on the screen. Darula could hit.

I hope to get over to Schaumburg this summer to see Chris Saenz pitch. I was at Miller Park the day he shut out the Cardinals on 2 hits for 6 innings as an emergency callup. Little did I know at the time, it could be his only major league appearence. Ironically it was 4 years ago today. If there's ever a guy I want to see make a comeback, it's Chris Saenz. He's still just 26.

I'm anxious to see how he's throwing.

In another bit of irony, the second baseman for the Cardinals who faced Saenz that day was Bo Hart who is also now a Schaumburg Flyer and another Flyer pitcher Ryan O'Malley pitched 8 shutout innings in his major league debut for the Cubs vs. the Astros in 06, then appeared in just one more game.

LHP Edwin Walker, the Brewers 9th round pick out of a San Antonio high school in 2002 whose Brewer career was ruined by arm problems, has signed with the Chillicothe (OH) Paints of the independent Frontier League. He last pitched with the Brewers organization in '05, and in indy ball in '06.

RHP Dane de la Rosa, released in spring training, is returning to the independent Golden Baseball League with Yuma (AZ).

RHP Vince Perkins signed with Camden (NJ) of the independent Atlantic League.

Nice summary of a big year in 2007 for former Huntsville LHP Brian Adams

***

The Atlantic League is the first of the eight independent leagues to begin play, with games now underway.

Each and every one of the eight rosters in the Atlantic League contains at least one former member of the Brewers organization, with most having multiple, including five member sof the York (PA) Revolution.

We've provided info on nearly all the names during this past offseason, but the link above should satisfy your curiosity for the most part if need be.
