We'll fill in minor leaguers later this month. Be sure to let us know if we missed anybody. RHP Robbie Wooley is continuing his independent league career, signing with the Rockford (Ill.) Riverhawks of the Frontier League.

Just-released RH reliever D.J. Lidyard found work quickly, signing with the independent Northern League's Fargo-Moorhead club.

Kansas City released RHP Ben Hendrickson. That 2004 AAA season was sure magical, Ben. The ten big league games that season, not so much.

 

INF Matt Erickson was released from the Diamondbacks organization.

 

RHP Gerry Oakes was released by Baltimore.

 

The White Sox released OF Jim Rushford.

 

Cincinnati released LHP Chris Michalak.

 

LHP Mike Myers was released by the Dodgers.

 

Pittsburgh released RHP Elmer Dessens and OF Jose Macias.

 

C Sal Fasano was released by Toronto.

I was thinking the same thing, Al. I bet Royalfan.net or whatever site their fans post on is getting an earful right now.

It seems obvious that the Royals did not allow Ben to pitch the way he wanted to. It's hard to believe he will ever has success as long as he has a "posse" that blames others for his inability to throw curves for strikes and spot his fastball.

 

My goodness, one plus pitch is all it takes to be a relief guy, ask Matt Wise.

Winnipeg of the independent Northern League released RHP Patrick Lawler.

Nelson Figueroa has been called up by the Mets to take the roster spot of Pedro Martinez. According to the above list, the Mets were already the leader in former Brewers, now there's 6.

 

Wes Helms has been designated for assignment by the Phillies; I'm sure this is already being discussed elsewhere.

Catcher Tim Marks was released by Sioux Falls of the independent American Association.

Among the most recent and prominent of traded prospects:

 

LHP Steve Garrison and RHP Will Inman (Scott Linebrink trade) are both in the rotation of AA San Diego's San Antonio team.

 

1B Andrew Lefave (Ray King deal) has skipped high-A, and is playing for the Nationals' AA Harrisburg squad -- he pinch-hit on Opening Night.

 

RHP Kevin Roberts (Salomon Torres trade) made his first relief appearance for the Pirates' AA Altoona club Thursday; RHP Marino Salas (same trade) debuted for AAA Indianapolis.

 

RHP Brian Wolfe (Corey Koskie trade) took the loss for the Blue Jays against the Yankees Thursday evening.

 

We hope to have all the minor league alumni links up within a week or so.

OF Cristian Guerrero (yes, that Cristian Guerrero, soon to be 28 years old) has signed with Gary (IN) of the independent Northern League. After his release by the Nationals last year, he began his indy career in Camden, N.J.

 

RHP Todd Gelatka (Brewers 2001 - 2003), who had an award-winning season as a reliever in the independent Golden Baseball League, re-signed with Chico (CA).

Infielder Will Lewis, who had a bit of a mini cult appreciation following, during his 2003-2005 stint with the Brewers, has signed with Pensacola as he enters his second season of play in the independent American Association.

 

Infielder Brent Abernathy signed with Long Island, the infamous Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.

RHP Alec Zumwalt was released by the Rockies' organization.

SS Enrique Cruz is looking for work, released by the Mets.

RHP Ben Hendrickson, released by the Royals last week, has signed with Tampa.

LHP Chris Michalak, released by the Reds last week, has signed with the Texas organization.

Sarfate was on baseball tonight earlier, and they did a little bit on him, showing him being clocked at 99 mph. He had another scoreless out - has a 1.00 career WHIP now after 20 innings, with 29 k's, and has O's fans talking about him as a closer.

It's nice to see the young guys on the MLB alumni list doing well, albeit in the early going. Eveland, Sarfate, Breslow, all doing well, with major local buzz on Dana and Dennis. Crabbe makes the Padres roster. Brian Wolfe a key guy in the Jays' pen. How can you not be psyched for these guys? Dennis is going to be awesome long-term in friendly one-inning sized bites. Kudos to the O's.

It's too bad the Brewers couldn't retain Sarfate a little longer. I think general consensus was that if he found some control (i.e. lowered the walk rate) he'd have been a great option out of the pen.

RHP Matt Hammons, who has been toiling in the independent leagues since his 2003 Huntsville stint, has signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League. Signing with the same club is RHP Dan Reichert (AAA, 2004).
