Two fisted slopper/slobber video

gypcasino
OK, so they finally busted this out at last night's game. I'm not sure if it was a new video meant to look retro or the actual olde tyme video from yesteryear. And the funny thing is that I still couldn't figure out if they were saying "slopper", "slobber", or both. I believe they called the person the "two fisted slopper" but then referred to him as a "slobber." Anyone else catch this?

Wouldn't it have to be the "Two-Fisted Slobberer"?

Thank you, TLB! This has been my point for a while now. The noun version of someone who slobbers would be slobberer. The noun version of someone who slops - slopper.

They played the video on Saturday too. What I don't remember is whether Bob Betts voiced it in the 80s. It's definitely someone else's voice, though the inflection of key phrases is just as I remember it from days of yore ("for whom that next one could be that..one-too-many").

I don't care what Aleta Mercer told me when I emailed her during an earlier debate on this issue. Slopper forever.

I know that I stated this last year in that long lost thread, but I remember two versions of the video. One with Bob Betts reading the script and one with the "younger sounding" guy that was probably played this weekend. (obviously, duh, since Betts is 6 feet under--I'm such a moron sometimes). I distinctly remember Mr. Betts saying "Slobber" but the other guy saying "Slopper." So does my wife.

So we may never really know which one it "truly" is. Maybe it was originally "Slobber" and after Betts died, they re-recorded it and changed it to "slopper"? Who knows? when I see Mr. Betts at the pearly gates someday, I'll have to ask him.

I saw it yesterday, and I'm officially willing to drop my long-standing belief that it was slobber. Its definitely slopper. I think they're using the old video, it even mentions County Stadium in the first couple of lines. I was surprised that I remembered almost the entire thing, word for word. I did notice one small change, they've edited out the location of the fan assistance center (which for all of us County Stadium diehards, was "on the main concourse, outside of section 18").

It was slopper totally. It did seem to be a slightly different video though then I remember (Maybe it was older then the one I remember as a child). I remember the guy having nachos and a load of beers trying to get into the stands.

Or it could be that he is a man that Slobs so he would have to be a Slobber.

that's what I mean, sgt. I remember the same video with two significantly different audio tracks. There may have been more for all we know.

For Brewer fans, this is our JFK film conspiracy.

Threads like this are the reason I love this site.

I was young, but I remember the video, and I vote for slobber. We'll see on Friday, I'll be paying extra close attention.

I wonder if they are going to be playing it before every game now or just the retro games.

Heck, are they even still doing retro Sundays/Fridays/Somedays? I don't remember hearing/reading about it.

I picked up a 2008 'guest information guide' at the game Saturday and I see no mention of a retro anyday. Not even a Turn Back the Clock Night.

(There is still a Negro League tribute day, on July 5, and Cerveceros Day on September 6.)
