Booing

gypcasino

I am all for booing the umps and other teams. But I think the fans have gotten a quick triger on booing the home team. Really the only time I think its appropriate to boo the home team is if they are showing a lack of effort.

That being said I truly hope the fans don't boo Jenkins when he comes back. I don't think booing is classless but that will be. Now booing Cordero is a differnet story since he talked about how much he wanted to remain a Brewer then left to a worse team for a small percantage more.

Success brings more fans, opening day will be interesting say if the Brewers are 3-0 or even 2-1 with a good road series victory vs the Cubs. You know Turnbow will get it when he is running in and probably when he is introduced at the beginning of the game. I understand a "fans" right but what is that "fan" doing to help the team? Cheer and question what you don't believe it right but booing before a player has done anything is weak and unfortunately we will hear it Friday.

What's worse? Booing the home team, like Cubs fans did yesterday; throwing trash on the field, like Cubs fans do even when they win, making more work for the $10 an hour garbage crew; or holding up signs with mistakenly-translated Japanese saying, "It's An Accident," like Cubs fans did yesterday?

I was just reading the will CoCo be booed thread and it finally came to me when booing is determined to be acceptable by individuals. It all has to do with your expectations of a player. I guess expectations can vary, but I think there is one person we can all aggree on booing. Gary Sheffield. What expectations of ours did he not satisfy. He did not play the game to the best of his ability. i.e. purposely playing bad. CoCo has fufilled my expectations. He acquired six years service time and took his skills elsewhere. Did he betray the Brewers for money? Sure he did and I guess that's why some fans, who love the Brewers will probably boo. I will not boo however. I'm just happy he did the best job he could while he was here out of mutual benefit. He did not violate the "rules of the game" in my book. If I could only find a way to boo baseball's lack of a salary cap without boycotting baseball I would probably do that.

The booing has been back in full force already this year.

Yesterday it was booing Mota and Gagne. Today the booing was directed at Bush and they started on Turnbow ASAP as soon as he walked a hitter. I wasn't really paying attention while McClung was getting hit around, but i'm assuming he got booed also.

The team has started out the year 6-2 and 4-1 at home, yet fans still feel the need to boo any Brewers pitcher that is struggling. It's moronic that this happens so often to our own players in their home park, what the hell is the matter with all these idiots booing their players?

I would blame it on a combo platter of casual fans filling the park and a simple misunderstanding of how baseball works (the best teams lose 50-60 games). I would agree with Danzig, it is a shame. My radio kept going out, so i missed much of the 8th and 9th, but as said, booing a .750 team is about as ignorant as it gets.

Booing is fine. Foul language and throwing stuff isn't. Getting into altercations with fellow fans isn't.

If a guy isn't hustling, or seems to not have his head in the game, or if a guy has been disrespectful to the fans or the game, then boo and boo loudly.

And of course, if the guy is a French Canadian, fatty closer with ridiculous facial hair and was recently named in the Mitchell report as a drug user, then boo him mercilessly, too.

If anything, people should've been booing the defense last night. A number of lackadaisical plays to go around.

Totally agree. It's one thing to make errors, it's another to play like your half asleep. Last nights lollygaggers were Fielder, Hart, and Braun.

The Brewers were handing out free tickets to last night's game like candy, so I'd guess a lot of the people that showed up just to drink had a lot of fun booing. I, however, really can't boo my team, especially this early in the season. Like many posters said, I know I'll have to sit through at least 60 losses...

I'll boo the umpires without much hesitation though.

If you are a Cubs fan, maybe. I'd call that the act of a pretty crappy Brewer fan, otherwise.

Really? Where? Special promotions or where they just arbitrarily handing them out or what? I cringe when I here that, because how is that fair to the people who actually paid to get in? It's not like they are struggling to draw fans.

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

The booing is so bad...it's really a bad mark for Brewers fans. The first ball Turnbow threw, the fans started getting on him. Give it a rest already. You hear that stuff and then wonder why a player doesn't want to sign for a little less to stay in Milwaukee? So he can get booed by some drunk who hasn't been to a game in 20 years? Brutal.

I agree. It makes no sense to boo someone just because they aren't playing well. It's not like it will help them. It's not like the player doesn't realize he isn't playing well.

If a player shows a consistent lack of hustle or effort, or is a jerk or something, sure - go ahead and boo. But booing just because a guy has a bad game, walks a guy, strikes out, or whatever, is just dumb.

I know the UWM Student Association got a few thousand tickets to this series, and I don't believe they paid for them - they gave them out to students. My dad also heard that some big companies were getting huge blocks of free tickets to the series. Regardless of the details, I highly doubt the 30,000+ attendance that was announced came entirely from people purchasing tickets to a Wednesday night game in April. My guess is it's a marketing tactic - give tickets out that will make it into the hand of casual or non-fans, and if they enjoy the experience they'll come back for more - and pay for it.

I'm on board with that comment.

Yeah, I'm much more of a big-picture booer, too, especially if it's an ongoing effort/hustle/demeanor issue.
