Booing

gypcasino

First of, let me say welcome to posting on BF.net geddymd73. I rarely "boo" at games and I don't think it will be possible to communicate your displeasure with a manager's decision by booing at a game. Maybe the Yost-haters should start writing angry letters instead.? Anyways you seem like you'll fit right in here with the slight back-handed insults to Yost intwined in your post. I do have one question about the following though.

Sure, I feel like booing when Ned puts out his Sunday lineup, but you can't do it unless the specific display of incompetence is right in front of us.

Is this because he rests too many regular players on Sunday or because you do not aggree with resting players at all or because your just upset that you went to the game and do not get to see your favorite players? If it is the last one I would not aggree that booing is very appropriate.

I generally don't boo the home team at all. I boo'd Mench (My hate made him strong) and some Yost decisions. I find the booing the home team seems counter intuitive, but have on occasion expressed my dislike of an event with an occasional boo. Some times they need to know what they did was wrong, if someones not hustling down 1st, or makes a dumb decision then booing is acceptable to me. Just as if someone makes a great hustle play, a great decision they deserve to be cheered.

Heckling is fine to me, as long as it's not the lame " You Suck" chant, clean and funny. But please, don't tell anyone how to be a fan. I know we all have our conception of what a "good fan" is, but not everyone is going to abide by it.

I have no problem with Milwaukee getting the reputation of having rowdy fans. I've heard Milwaukee called the Midwest's Philadelphia, and I have no problem with that,

I have a big problem when we start to draw comparisons to what are considered to be the rudest fans in the country.

I'd rather have opposing teams hate the thought of playing at Miller Park,

I would hate the thought of opposing teams being comfortable in our park as well. I also hate the thought of our own team feeling uncomfortable in their home park which seems to be where we are heading right now.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Best booing ever = booing the throw to first base to keep a runner close.

Or booing the throw to a base because you think any move by the pitcher other than a pitch is a balk.

Especially the spin-but-no-throw to second base. (Easily a Top Five pet peeve of mine, baseball-wise.)

Yeah, if you're anti-GWB, I think the proper thing is to applaud politely, but not enthusiastically. Full-throated booing is just uncool, especially when you're opening your new park and generally looking to have a fun time.

I agree, I would have applauded politely. Booing was totally in appropriate...but you know the fans, "they paid for their ticket, they can act however they please"

Next thing you know Ryan, with the boo mentality being tossed around today, it will now be ok to stand and boo at a soldier's funeral. Because their hard money went to tax dollars to pay the soliders salary. And because they came home deceased, they didnt try hard enough or perform to standards.

Yea, political opinions shouldn't have any place in baseball. Can't say I blame the people but that's not the place. Be classy and at least cheer because it's the start of a new season if not anything else.

Believe it or not, members of the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church do precisely this, although for somewhat different reasons. (I won't go into the particulars here, because it enters all sorts of verboten territory in terms of religion, politics, and sexuality.)

The President gets booed everywhere, in the US, and especially over in Europe. Thats a given. I'm just surprised that the plastic beer bottles and trash didn't get hurled onto the field. However, throwing things is more of a Cub fan thing. If he gets off with just boos, its a good day for the secret service.

As far as the Sunday lineup thing, Yost tended to rest his starting position players more than the average, so I tend to hate following the Brewers on those days. Putting guys like Nix or Barnwell in the 2 hole or proudly featuring Counsel in major batting roles on these days just annoy me to no end. Its as if Sunday games don't mean anything in the standings. If the team wants people taking the day off, the fans can take the day off, sleep in, and not bother attending. For the ones who do, if they want to boo, its within their right.

Do you have anything other than your memory to back this up?

Everyone has the right to boo; that's not even what's being debated. This is all very simple to me. I'm a Brewer fan. I want the Brewers to succeed. I do my best not to boo a Brewer player simply for bad performance because it can't help and may actually hurt the team I claim to have an allegiance to. I try to put the team ahead of my hurt feelings.

Booing for managerial decisions that you disagree with... I try not to do it either but I can at least appreciate the theory that it's the only real way for a fan to show their disapproval. of course, if you are booing any move that has a bad result... you might want to adjust your expectations.

Or just sit there silently, implying your dissent by not cheering. You don't have to show feigned approval, but booing is dumb. It's a freakin' baseball game where he was throwing out the first pitch, go boo him at a speech if you don't like him.

I don't have the exact page, but last season the Brewers field starters were averaging under 140 games played, while the average in the division was closer to 145. Only 2 Brewers played over 140 games, with Hart barely making the cut, playing only 140. I'm not going to push the issue, but the guys had a lot of days off for various reasons and platoons. I'd rather have us using our best when we needed every game possible, however I kept my boos at home. 5 less days off might have helped us get those 2 wins that were needed.
