Washing machine help

Barbs4339
I have a Whirlpool washing machine in the 10-15 old range that the spin cycle just stopped working on. It pumps out water but it does not spin. My question is this. Is this something that I can possibly fix myself? If not, does it make sense to pay someone to come and fix it versus buying a new one based on the age of it? Thanks.

Unless your Whirlpool was a really high end one that was very efficient, I'd suggest getting a new one. You will pay more than getting it fixed, but you will save water and electricity (or gas for drying as the good washers really spin out the water).

I had something similar happen with an old one at my house. Luckily I was paying attention because it started smoking. Lots of fun siphoning the water out after that too.

Thanks a million FTJ. That is exactly what was wrong. I did a search for that problem and step by step instructions on how to get to the coupler and replace it. About a 45 minute process which included going to Sears to get the part. I was all set to look for a new one this weekend and dodged a bullet.
