Downloading Music

thunderbat30

I am actually sort of embarassed to ask this question but where is the best place to download music. We recently purchased a new computer and I can burn CDs. I checked out Walmart.com and they don't have a huge selection. Rhapsody is a little expensive because I bet I won't download more than 50 songs in an entire year. We don't have an IPod. I don't want to download a program that takes up a ton of space on my computer or is illegal.

Thanks for any suggestions. I feel like I am behind the times.

Personally, I use iTunes....but then again I have an iPod, and love iTunes for podcasting.

If I were just starting d/l -ing music today, I'd probably lean towards Amazon.com's online music store. Song prices vary between $.89 and .99 (same as iTunes), they're .mp3's (which will play on virtually everything), and are encoded at a higher bitrate (256 Kbps) than most of the iTunes offerings.

My girlfriend swears by the Amazon.com downloads. You can download by individual song or entire albums for just $8.99. Plus since they are mp3's they aren't encrypted and can be played on whatever you like, not just iPods.
