Bonds is in the Player's Association, he just opted out of the PA's collective liscensing agreement. Miller is barred from joining. I think he is the last scab in the big leagues (not really surprising)

Isn't Brendan Donnelly still around, or did the Red Sox let him go?

Damian Miller, according to the Players Association, is not allowed union membership. He is given representation during arbitration or other matters, he also receives pension benefits, but they are not part of the actual union ? which essentially means Miller does not receive any licensing monies and he cannot vote on union matters.

but its ok for him to hit walk off homers

now that we are 14 games above .500 again all the bandwagon fans will be coming out and claiming they knew the Brewers would have the best record in the National League

Says the guy with 6 posts (Sorry, had to do it!)

Anyway, this was a big one...I'll be happy if we don't get swept in Chicago and ecstatic if they win more than one

Miller was a replacement player during the 1994 strike, thus he is disallowed from becoming a member of the players union.

I want it to be Friday NOW!!! I'm ready for the next game! I don't know what I'm going to do! Actually, I do, the wife is out of town and I have plenty of jobs to do before she gets home. But man, this team is FUN to watch! I'm hoping for at least 2 out of 3.

Best record in the National League - check

Team playing great baseball right now - check

Favorable pitching matchups this weekend - check

Playing a team with a sub .500 record - check

So how many autographed bats do you think they'll have to give away today? 1?

I think I've seen Miller jersey tees at the ballpark before. I tried to visit the Fan Zone 40 minutes before game time, but there was a line so long they were using the kind of line-organizing ropes you see in banks - apparently to let only a few people in at a time. (It didn't seem worth waiting in line 20 minutes just to find out that the Villanueva tees were probably still sold out.)

Anyway, today was "LaCrosse Area Day" - so Damian was putting on a well-timed show for his home folk. The team celebration at home plate was exciting, as were the curtain call and Damian's happy reaction to it.

And it was about bloody time someone ended that game. Miller Park was a steamy hotbox. Here is the timeline of our arrival at the park:

12:00 noon - we leave car in the Giants parking lot. It is sunny enough to make me think about switching to sunglasses. Roof is open.

12:05 - we've crossed under the interstate and are 2/3 of the way to the park. We feel a few drips.

12:06 - utter downpour, blowing sideways from the northwest. Roof is closing. Run!

12:10 (or so) - we're in the park on the terrace level, watching the rain pour in through the still-open part of the roof (mostly first base side) and the tarp on the field.

The rain was done well before 1:00, but I was not surprised that they left the roof closed. They didn't open the side panels again until a while into the game, but there wasn't a breeze anyway, so we all sat and sweated.

There were a zillion kids there today in YMCA camp groups (bankrolled in part by Geoff Jenkins). They did not seem to be interested in the game so much as chanting at each other. It was as if YMCA turf wars were being fought through high pitched rhythmic shouting. But unlike the last few games we've attended, the crowd didn't seem as into the game...until late, after the kids left.

Overall, I can't complain about an 8-4 Brewers record when we're at the park. As the home team happily trotted off the field, I asked them to please remain in first place by the time we see them next (not until July 15 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ). Only time will tell if they heed me.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I'd say he's just being realistic. Losing 2 of 3 to a good team on a road shouldn't be a big deal. Winning 2 of 3 against a good team is a good deal.

Russ, I completely empathize with what he said. I think I was clear about that. I'm just pointing out how funny it is that we'd both be pleased to avoid a sweep. Relax, this isn't a quarrel.

As to the Cubs being defined as a good team - last I checked, good teams don't spend much time looking up at .500 by the time late June rolls around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Just wanted to say "Yay!" I just about lost control of the car driving down I-80 west of Des Moines first when Hall nearly hit it out and then when Damian did.

Great game to listen to on the road. Thank God for xm radio. Too bad on Friday and (maybe) Saturday I'll have to listen to the Cubs guys but (as the other thread states) I enjoy Pat and am looking forward to a lot of "gosh darn its" and "oh no's" from Mr. Santo.

I watched the Brewers Squeeze Play tonight and I have to just say for the record that Suppan pitched a lot better than his line indicates. The Astros really only hit two balls hard off him all day, being Berkman's homer and Lee's ensuing double. Otherwise everything was just little squibb hits that just made it through. I think he's looking better, just not getting the breaks.
