Patrick Roy's son kicking some tail

Stuff like this is why I cannot consider Hockey a legit sport. Any sport that allows this crap is a joke in my opinion.

I'm not anti boxing, MMA or anything, but violence like this in the middle of a so called "legit" sport is ridiculous.

it was a playoff game no less. I am looking at it wondering what that other goalie is doing. Roy is coming right at him and this guy has his arms resting on the goal. what an idiot. at least defend yourself

I remember watching the Av's game with the Roy-Osgood fight when I was in high school....I just sat there in awe saying "holy [crap]" over and over. And then the next year I stopped watching hockey.

EDIT: Please don't taunt the cuss filter - b19

no him and his son are punks. The other goalie wanted nothing to do with the fight, even after Roy taunted him from the blue line. In another video you can see little Roy look at daddy and daddy gesturing for him to go get him and the little Roy skates over and sucker punches the kid, whom by the way is twice the talent Roy is.

Man playoff hockey is awesome! I remember the Roy - Osgood fight as well, the first time the Avs/Wings meet in the regular season after Lemueix hit into the boards was great! I forgot how many penalty minutes, but I think each team had 1 guy on the bench.

Fighting is understood in hockey, if you cheap shot our guy, you taunt us, we are going to put you in place. Now cheap shots, that's not cool but I think other goalie knew what was going to happen. It wasn't like Bertuzzis 100% inexcusable from behind mauling that ended a career.

Saying that, getting your goal tender kicked out for Instigating doesn't seem like sound coaching Patrick.

I love hockey, but the "penalty" is a joke. Somebody that fights serves a 5 minute detention and then can come back into the game. And rarely is there a financial penalty. At least do something like baseball and football and eject the player for the rest of the game. I bet that rule change would instantly reduce the number of fights.

EA Sports...It's in the game...until we arbitrarily decide to shut off the server.

This is why hockey is stupid. Can you imagine the outrage if a basketball brawl like that happened? Or football? Or baseball? Remember when the whole Padres AAA team got suspended a couple years ago? But in hockey, every one is just "oh, that's cool, that guy pummeled some guy who didn't want to fight, ha ha."

This is why hockey deserves it's plummeting popularity, despite the fact that there are some amazing athletes playing the sport. When a sports whole competitive culture is based around cheap shots, does it really deserve to be seen as a legitimate sport?

This wasn't as egregious a cheap shot incident as the Ben Christensen baseball incident, but I hope that this younger Roy fails like Christensen did.

I think if hockey really wanted to drop fighting, they would've already put in some tougher rules.

I love hockey and have no problem at all with the fighting.

The whole competitive culture is based on cheap shots? That's a rather broad statement. Sure, there are cheap shots, but it's not the basis of the game. It's a very physical game to begin with and most of the hitting is legal. You'll have your certain players who do play dirty though.

joehova, i remember a couple months ago, i commented in a bucks thread saying how much the nba sucked, and it was stupid. I of course got yelled at for it, and there is no reason for you to come in here and say that hockey isn't a sport, when it takes the most athletic skill out of any of them to play. Now I don't want to get into that fight, but because guys are sticking up for their team, that makes it not a sport, that is the most ignorant comment I've ever seen. There are some cheap shotters like pronger, simon, and tootoo, but there is no reason to say that it isn't a sport because of that. For the record, attendance is up this year, perhaps you should do some research before you say such "stupid" things. A lot of us on here like hockey, and you have no right to say it isn't a sport.

i'm done...

I think there is a big difference between fighting in hockey and fighting in other sports. In 99% of the fights in hockey, its 1-1. The two players stand in there until they fall down and it usually breaks itself up then. The other players don't get involved. The other players actually knock the players' gloves and helmets away so the don't fall over them and get hurt. Basically, they know how to handle it. You watch the punks in basketball fight, and it is always started by a cheap shot. Then 4 guys come running in. Players are throwing wild haymakers b/c they don't really want to get hit. Players come in off the bench. its just a mess....not like hockey at all.

I play, I coach varsity hockey, I sell hockey equipment, I am president of my local youth association..... I cannot stand the Roy's. The younger has no talent and is only in the game because of his Dad.

I don't have a problem with fighting I have a problem with what the younger Roy did, he has no class. This is why I also hate playing adult league hockey because you have a bunch of guys watching this stuff then thinking they are in the NHL, and they start acting like tools

Great post billyhallfan. Attendance wise this year hockey is on a massive come back. Rather than trash hockey as something that shouldn't be considered a "legitimate sport," why not take the time to do some research about the game, and learn what it's all about. Hockey players are regarded as some of the best hand-eye coordinated athletes around. Being ignorant about something you don't know about just drives me nuts.

brewcrew, thank you. not only the hand eye cordination, but there are only a few people in the world that have the balance, acceleration, and just pure athleticism to twist and change direction on ice while not looking at the puck and skate really really fast and stop on a dime. I heard that Alexander Ovechkin once skated so fast that when he stopped on a dime, his blade broke off his skate. They call it the fastest game on two feet for a reason, if the NHL had a real tv contract, they would be doing a whole lot better.

I'm a fan of hockey, I think it's a great game to watch and wish I would've played it sometime when I had the chance when I was a little younger. I'll admit, I love seeing a good fight at a hockey game. However, I can also see other peoples' points of view. It is the only professional sport that basically allows assault on its playing field. I understand it's somewhat a part of the game's history and culture maybe and I fully respect standing up for your teammates after a cheap shot along the boards, but at the same time in today's society it's surprising that the fighting is allowed to go on as much as it does, often resulting in only a two or five minute penalty. Take a look at the "fight" between the Knicks and Nuggets last year, and the significant penalties those players drew for an incident that was roughly equivalent to the fighting that goes on in hockey on a relatively daily basis. It's just something that's interesting to think about and debate.

They want fighting in the league. Its what keeps them different. They take that out, I would guess alot of people would not pay to see it.

i just wish that hockey could make the news for something other than the bad stuff. Good Morning America covered this, and they covered the Pronger stomp, but they haven't even mentioned Ovechkin's amazing run, we really should be posting youtube videos like this:

I like hockey and I'm kinda surprised more people don't. It has high contact, speed, agility and really good rivalries. I think one of the reasons why people don't like hockey is because they don't understand how the game is played or the rules of the game. Another reason might be because its next to impossible to find a game on tv. Looking at the attendances for the year, they are packing the rinks so plenty people are going to the games.

tons of people go to the games, but no one thinks to look on versus for their tv games, plus they are on NBC sometimes too, but the outdoor classic was awesome, I think buffallo sold out the stadium, but it was on new years during bowl games, so not as many people watched it like they would another day...
