Gallardo to DL, Stetter and Rottino to AAA... But Randy Choate is hurt, too! (15-day DL)

And That

Didn't notice a thread about this, but Randy Choate broke his pitching (left) hand in a rundown drill and will obviously not be ready for the beginning of the year.

So, does this mean Stetter is the odds on favorite to win a job out of the bullpen, does this clear a spot for whomever loses the Villanueva/Vargas/Parra/Bush battle for the last three rotation spots, does it mean that McClung will be protected on the big league roster without being exposed to waivers, or does it mean longshots Narveson and Bray still have a chance?

Edit: Choate has actually been placed on the 15-day DL already as of yesterday... and no one started a thread on it. For shame!

Also posted in our minor league transaction thread, but feel free to discuss here:

Vinny Rottino and Mitch Stetter optioned to Nashville, Rottino can be optioned again in 2009 and Stetter in '09 and '10.

Yovani Gallardo to 15-day DL, he'll have to miss the first five days of the regular season at a minimum.

Parra should be nowhere near the pen with his arm problems. And there never really was room for a second lefty anyway. Assuming a 12 man staff:

Riske

Torres

Mota

Turnbow

Gange

Shouse

Long relief

So unless Capuano heals and heads to the pen in long relief, no real room for a lefty reliever.

No room for a 2nd lefty, as McClung is out of options. This has been all but a given since early in camp, but unannounced to give the illusion of a competition. Likely the same for Eric Munson, those guys had jobs unless they were caught smoking a doobie or drowning puppies...but they leave their options open, in case they end up trading for one or something.

In fact, rumor is the Crew asked about Laird to be a reserve, a perfect example...they like Munson, but not enough to not go after an upgrade.

It's good that Yo is only going to miss a week.

We don't know it'll only be a week. All we know is that his DL stay can end after a week if he happens to be healthy and ready.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'd imagine they'll keep Stetter over McClung. Too bad the April schedule is different this year. Normally they could open the year with 4 starters, but this year they'll need 5

DHonks, keep in mind Stetter was just optioned (top of this thread)...

Don't assume Munson's won the job just yet. He's had a nice spring offensively compared to an okay spring by Rivera, but Rivera is a well liked guy in the clubhouse, knows the staff better than Munson and has more experience behind the plate.

McClung isn't going to make the team unless the Brewers carry 13 pitchers, which is foolish
I don't know about that. Yost has indicated that the starters are going to be either stating with the Brewers or starting in AAA. McClung is also being stretched out to be the long man. I'd say it looks like a pretty good bet that McClung is the 12th man.

McClung as long relief is just asking for trouble. Yes, when your long reliever pitches you are likely in trouble but you want a guy who can give you innings. McClung could easily walk half the batter he faces and last only two innings throwing 80 pitches

JS Online is reporting that Vinny Rottino has been told that he will be a full-time catcher and will be looked upon to one day become the Brewers full-time starting catcher. That's got to be an exciting vote of confidence.

  • 4 weeks later...
I don't know if this is the right thread or not, but is there any indication when Yovani will be back in Milwaukee? The Sounds are home through Friday and I was wondering if he'll be in Nashville for the rest of the week. I think he's made the amount of starts the Brewers wanted him to so I'd imagine he'll be back with the Brewers soon.

I haven't heard anything, but until there's a roster move, this is as good a thread as any for your question. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I think he threw 109 pitches -- so mission accomplished!

Yea I don't think he'll start again, but I selfishly want to get his autograph on Friday if he's still on the roster. I couldn't make last nights game -- and it looks like most of Nashville couldn't with attendance under 1,700.

[OT] Team Canada, that is a great signature. [/OT]

Do you think the real Team Canada should tell Bush that Yo already has a plane ticket? Do you think that might motivate him?
