Never said that he couldn't long-term. It just seems like the best place for him until he gets back in to the "swing" of things. A few weeks from now I would have him somewhere from 5-7...

It's still early with Braun, in the minors (at least this year) he didn't do much of either (walks or K's) but actually had less K's than walks. I think the lack of walks can be attributed to Prince hitting behind him, so pitchers have to be agressive with him.

Prior to 2007 Braun had walked 55 times and K's 140. That doesn't sound like a major league #3 hitter to me. At least that doesn't seem like the type of hitter I would want to put in the 3 hole as a rookie.

I think it's more of a problem if pitchers are being agressive with Braun because of Prince. If he's being thrown lots of strikes because pitchers don't want to walk him in front of prince and Braun is just missing them, that's a bigger problem, than if he was just overagressive and pitchers are not giving him anything good to hit. That's more worrying to me, and even more of a reason to move him down in the order.

I really liked the lineup they had yesterday. I'd like to see that one for a while:

Hart

Hardy

Braun

Fielder

Hall

Estrada

Menchkins

Weeks

SP

Maybe yo ucould move guys around after Hall but that'd be picking nits.

It seems like Ned likes this lineup, as yesterday was his second or third day using it in a row. In the Journal Sentinel this morning, it said JJ got axed because of hip soreness, so Counsell was inserted.

This lineup looks strong all the way through. Stick with the Jenks/Menchkins platoon against righties/lefties (or just ride the hot hand at the 7 hole) and stick with this, and we have guys who can hit for average and power from top to bottom in this lineup.

Moving PFielder up to the 3slot gets him significantly more atbats and having weeks and Braun together in either lineup seems like a lot of raking potential...just my two cents...thanks

To answer your questions: Hardy after Braun is less important than Hardy before Fielder. He rakes there. Weeks at six because the team is so damn deep. Menchkins at eight because Estrada is more likely to get an out and not get to the pitcher, and is also more likely to get a hit and drive in speedy Ricky. Sheets is specified because if he could pitch every day that would be so beautiful.

Granted, when Weeks gets back in the swing of things. But I think he's a much better hitter than to be sitting in the 8 hole, then again, lineup looks pretty solid as is. Well since it seems Hall may be out awhile, time for a new one...

This is with a .375 OBP Gwynn and Weeks. Do I think Gwynn can do that playing every day? Ummm, probably not. But the title of this thread is what's your "ideal" lineup. So anyway...

Gwynn/Weeks

Hardy

Hart

Fielder

Braun

Estrada

Jenkins/Mench

Weeks/Gwynn

In my previous lineup, I really hope Gwynn or Weeks can take over that leadoff spot. I like the "protection" for Fielder with Braun and Hart hitting around him. If I was the opposition, Estrada wouldn't scare me as much as a Braun or Hart would. Plus with Estrada's "speed" it's a DP waiting to happen.

In reality I think we will see something like this...

Hart

Hardy

Braun

Fielder

Estrada

Jenkins/Mench

Weeks

Gwynn/Gross

Yeah, I think we get it. You're not a Yost supporter. You think he tinkers with the lineup way too much. You think he's a idiot and would consider a lineup like this.

Point taken...

1. Weeks

2.Hart

3.Braun

4.Fielder

5.Hardy

6.Jenkins

7.Estrada

8.Grench (Gross/Mench)

Were getting to the time of year that Jenkins gets hot, so I'm finally ready to let him play fulltime.

Jenkins should never, ever start a game when there is a lefty starter. Did I say never?

EDIT: Let me rephrase that slightly. Jenkins should never, ever start a game when there is a lefty starter if we have a right handed outfielder on the bench. Basically Leave Jenkins in every day while Hall is hurt, but go back to the platoon when Hall comes back.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Here's my first shot at this. Coming out of the break, maybe try something like this:

Hart-CF

Weeks-2B

Hardy-SS

Fielder-1B

Braun-3B

Jenkins-LF

Estrada-C

Mench-RF

I know this will never happen but I love the idea of a ton of speed at the top of the lineup and I don't think Rickie will ever get going in the 8 hole--pitchers can throw him off speed stuff all day. Fielder would be solidly protected. Anyways, it works for me in MLB 07 The Show http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

since braun is batting 545 against lefties this year, right before Prince is ideal. It prevents managers from bringing in a lefty to face more batters than prince.

I wouldn't change the lineup much from what Ned usually puts out there

1. Hart

2. hardy

3. Braun

4. Fielder.

5. Hall

6. Estrada

7. Jenkins / Mench

8 Weeks

Since I started the topic, let me ask everyone to look at this in a slightly different way. Look at each player and ideally where SHOULD they bat in the line-up, all things being equal? Perhaps looking to next year.

Hart- #3

Hall- #6 (could be a #5 hitter)

Estrada- #6-7

Fielder- #4

Weeks- Honestly, who knows.

Hardy- #7 Yes he had an ultra hot stretch, but not sold he's a #2 hitter

Braun- #5

Gwynn- #8, possibly #1

What I found going through this exercise is that the Brewers need a lead-ff guy next year if it's not Gwynn, The rest of the line-up takes care of itself. Replace Menchkins with a lead-off guy in CF or LF and you get:

Player X

Hardy

Hart

Fielder

Braun

Hall

Estrada

Weeks/Graffy

Maybe it's just me, but I see more potential from that line-up than Hart leading off and Braun hitting 3rd. Plus it gives Fielder more protection.
