Bush for Mike Jacobs?

Just curious if anyone here would be interested in trading Dave Bush for Mike Jacobs of the Marlins. I am proposing the trade because it was revealed on MLBTRADERUMORS that the Marlins are looking for a starter. I think that Jacobs would be a great addition to the Brewers because we do need a power bat off the bench, and as a left handed hitter he fits the bill. He would give us a fallback option at 1st should *God Forbid* Prince get hurt for an extended period. He cant hit Lefties for a lick.

I like the trade for the Marlins because I do not think they are all that high on Jacobs as it is, and adding Bush to the back of any rotation is a pretty good pickup.

Well Gross doesnt play 1st base so if Prince goes down for an extended period Gross wouldnt be a major piece in that Puzzle to me. It makes sense to me. Jacobs is still somewhat new to 1st Base, playing catcher as recently as 2005. He made major strides last season vs Lefties (small sample) and that to me is exciting to see.

I dont think that Gross power even comes close to that of Jacobs, and showing me a stat isnt going to do it. Jacobs is the Magic 27 this year as well and is still developing as a hitter as well as a 1st baseman.

Its my opinion that this team is right there and the Bench is the one place where Id like to see us add some firepower. I think we could expect Jacobs #s to jump in Miller park as it seems much more accomidating to Home Run hitters. He is very affordable.

I've got to agree with endaround here. Jacobs would have little value to the Brewers. He's not a bad hitter but he only plays 1B.

But if Bush is attractive to the Marlins, it's worth exploring as crunch time for the pitching staff decisions is getting real close. I don't see anyone who might be available off their major league roster that's a need for Brewers though.

But we don't have any real needs for the MLB roster, so flipping a SP for prospect(s) is a great idea imo. The Wayne Franklin trade always pops into my mind - though I realize the entire way that played out was a tad extreme.

It'd be a great idea if he could play in the OF, OR if he were still a catcher from time to time, but as our roster currently stands, it's not a real good trade.

I do agree with you however that our bench is the only place that this team could really use an upgrade...a realistic one that is as we're not likely to add a upgrade in the rotation or in the lineup. I just would like a little more versatility.

I think that you've got a pretty good idea though with a guy like Mike Jacobs for Dave Bush, just not a good fit.

Gross's ISP while with the Brewers has been .202 each of the last two seasons. Jacobs was .211 and .192 the last two seasons. Hard to see Jacobs as having significantly more power. And Gross has much better on base skills. I know you don't want to see thing like stats, otherwise known as facts, to cloud things but Jacobs just isn't good enough to waste Bush on.

I wouldn't mind the trade given our SP depth, but with the glut of ST injuries we've had at SP, I also wouldn't actively seek a trade with Bush at the moment.

As a side note, did anyone think of Mike Jacobs the news anchor when they read the title to this thread? It made me chuckle a little.
