Lies about the Brewers

InsomniacInkRoss

Occasionally with less knowledgeable Brewer fans, I will make up a fun little lie to see if they believe it (Like telling someone they need winter air in their tires, or they are out of turn signal fluid)

My current favorite is to tell people the "J.J" in J.J. Hardy stands for John Jaha, and he changed it so there wouldn't be any confusion.

Anyone else do this? Am I evil? What are some other good ones?

on family vacations, once we got to a far-away-enough state and people saw we were from Wisconsin, my father was fond of telling people that cheese grew on plants. an awful lot of people believed that one. man that was always funny.

and the old one, of course, is that we all have a cow in our backyard.

Not to stray from the Brewers theme here, but Wisconsin is kind of a mythical place to people who live on the coasts... Living in L.A. for three years now (ugh...) is interesting because Wisconsin is viewed as this place deep in the woods and disconnected from the rest of society where people freely drink, eat sausages and cheese...

You can really make up any Paul Bunyan-esque legends about Wisconsin and most people out here will believe it.

My favorite experience may have been on Spring Break back in 99 (ugh I'm getting old) - we went to Daytona and there was this group of New York guys who were kind of showing off and running the joint - but as soon as they knew we were from Wisconsin, they immediately admitted to not being able to hold their liquor and that we could drink anyone in the town under the table - without any grandstanding by us...

Then my uncle, Robin Yount, joined us...

(Actually, my dad used to tell people Ed Gein was his uncle... that was always uncomfortable for people...)

I tell people that Russ Bryanon is an icon in Wisconsin. Oh wait. Nevermind.

My worst sports lie has to be when I went to bar in Green Bay & starterd introducing my self as Tim Hauck(safety for the Packers ) to a few ladies whom might have had a ginger ale or two that night. My friend (lets just call him Don Davey) & I has a few ginger ales ourselves. After about a half a dozen or so, Tony Bennett(Linebacker, not the singer, coach or basketball player) walked in. I thought it would be really swell to intoduce myself to him. Unfortuntly I played the part so well I forgot who I really was & gave him my alias for the night. I will never do that again anytime soon.

"Wisconsin is kind of a mythical place to people who live on the coasts"

When I lived in CA and told people I was moving back to Wisconsin, a coworker asked "Hey, I'll be in New Jersey this summer. Maybe I can stop by and visit you?" I swear some of them think the Atlantic Ocean is just over the Rockies.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

"Gullible" is not in the dictionary.

Not really sure if this would be a Brewers lie, but I would tell people that the creator of Brewerfan.net is really a Cubs fan. It is so unbelievable I doubt that anybody would think it is madeup.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.
