Help and Suggestion on Building a Website

Ando Calrissian

So, as the title of the thread suggests, I'm interested in creating a web page. The purpose of the page, more than anything, is the facilitate the documentation of shared ideas between a buddy of mine and me who are planning a sweet vacation in about a year. After we're done using the site for the sharing of information between the two of us, we want to use it to document our trip, post links, photos, music files, etc. I'm pretty much a joke when it comes to doing these kind of things (the techonology piece, not the research piece) and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions about the best way for me to go about doing this.

Thanks,

Ando

MySpace is not user friendly in the least. It's slow, cumbersome, and overpopulated with phishers. Stay away.

What you basically want to do is a blog, so any free blogging site like LiveJournal or Wordpress will work fine. Even with the intro templates on those site you can post music, links, and photos without knowing squat about HTML much like you can on this forum. I've used both and find they both work well, though WordPress is more expandable.

I recommend drupal for just about anything. It's a content management system similar to Wordpress, but always seemed to be a lot more versatile to me. There are add-on modules available for just about anything you could think of, so just about anything you may want to do is possible. I have a couple of websites using it now:

http://championshipatbest.com

Downside is that its not a hosted solution like some of the others mentioned here, so you'll need some space on a web server someplace to install it.

Hosting might be a little more then he wants to deal with at this point. Plus he'd also have to put up some money as well. Most beginners tend to get pretty apprehensive when you start talking about those things.
