Marquette Big East tourney (Latest: Pitt wins 68-61; Pitt led entire game)

McNeal was on for sure. James got just hot enough to help keep the game out of reach. MU's defense was fantastic tonight, and Barro is a player for whom the Badgers don't really have a match down low. Nice to see Madison boy Wes Matthews contributing. All in all, I'd say the state of WI basketball is pretty strong. When's the last time both UW & MU went to at least the sweet 16?

When's the last time both UW & MU went to at least the sweet 16?

Wasn't it 2003? I thought when Marquette went on their Final Four run there was a chance that the Elite 8 was going to be MU UW until Kentucky beat UW in the sweet 16. I could be wrong, I was watching the game at a bar, and am currently quite drunk...

You're correct, Alaska. The Freddy Owens 3 ball at the end beat Tulsa to cap off an awesome comeback and go to the Sweet 16.

Also, I was watching the Marquette game. Drinking Blatz. By myself sitting on the futon...

Anyway that should hopefully give Marquette a 6 seed at worst. Heck, if they win the tournament they could maybe get a 4. The committee seems to like teams that somewhat surprisingly win their conference tourneys (Syracuse a couple years ago, and Maryland in like 2004). McNeal is a stud.

Also, the losses by UConn and Notre Dame pretty much guaranteed UW at least a 3. They'll also probably pass/stay ahead of Louisville if they beat Michigan later today.

I don't have cable, so I was listening to Homer and Jimmy Mac on the radio. No question who the leader of this team is.

Nice to see Acker step up in the 2nd half and Fitzgerald hit some shots in the first half. MU really needs Cubillian, Fitz, and Acker stepping up their play off the bench. Those guys need to be taking threes when given the chance. Where has Cubillan disappeared to? They can't count on McNeal hitting threes like that every game.

Edit: And 2003 was the year that UWM lost to Notre Dame by 1 point in their first NCAA.

1994 was probably the next best run for the state. MU in the Sweet 16, UW won 1 game in their first NCAA tourney in centuries http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif, and UWGB won a game with Dick Bennet at the helm.

Anybody got thoughts on tonight's game? It's going to be tough for Marquette on the frontline, but if they shoot well, and play smart, it will be a good game. I'll be watching it until the Brewer game starts and then probably flipping back and forth.

Marquette isn't knocking down shots tonight. I'm not a big Marquette fan but its going to be impossible to win when its 8 on 5 the refs have been atrocious in this game. I know Pitts got a bunch of kids from NY but this is kind of a joke.

Marquette can't hit water if they fell out of a boat. This is painful to watch.

That is their biggest weakness and what will eventually cause them to lose in the big dance. Their jump shooting is very erratic, especially in the case of James. When they aren't making jumpers, they have to get out and run or they struggle badly to score given they have no post game.
