Green Brewers gear--I don't get it

Nearsighted Views

I looked around and I couldn't find anything on this but I was at Kohl's the other day and they have a ton of green Brewers gear. Am I missing something? Am I behind the times? Is this just a marketing thing or did I miss a memo?

Any help in solving this quandry will be much appreciated.

Really? My wife and I talked about it for like a half hour. I had about 7 theories and was looking forward to getting the scoop from here. And I get 3 words. And it was obvious. And why would they sell stuff for a holiday that occurs before the season even starts? Is it going to be red, white and blue in May and July? Black and orange in October? Green and red at Christmas? OK. I'll stop.

Yeah, it's pretty silly to have a full line for one day during spring training. Are the Brewers are gonna wear a green themed jersey on St Patty's Day? I've seen the reds and the sox throwbacks with Green, but can't recall any other teams doing it.

since i'm actually planning on attending the st patricks day game versus the chicago white sox, i'm starting to catch the green fever. i'm planning on taking off work so i can photograph it. its a shame we wont be seeing the green brewers stuff at the kohls in phoenix. but at least we have an abundance of 70% off super bowl 42 merchandise.

At Maryvale last year we saw some green merchandise in their gift shop. Some of it I think specified St. Patrick's Day 2007.

As for why, I join Hall4President in having no idea. I get that the Brewers usually if not always play on March 17, but I would never have thought about having green Brewers gear for one day a year.

Then again, I generally do not get hyped up over St. Patrick's Day. March 17 was my late grandfather's birthday, and that's the significance the date holds for me.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I've always thought the off-color merchandise looked real stupid (for all teams), but I guess some people like to have a green hat for a green shirt day.

OK. My favorite Brewers hat is my Irish Brewers hat. I wear it almost exclusively. Why do they sell the green line? Because it is very popular and Irish people eat it up. Irish people eat it up but so do the people who want something different or want to be Irish for a day. It sells good. It really isn't a hard answer.

My favorite hat by far was a white one with a green wheat M logo and a little green shamrock on the brim that I bought at spring training two years ago. Unfortunately, I forgot it somewhere between Byron Bay and Sydney on the eastern coast of Australia. I'm still planning to go back for it someday.

At least I find comfort in the fact that some rugby or cricket fan is hopefully now wearing what is probably the only St. Patricks Day Milwaukee Brewers hat to ever exist in Australia.

off-color merchandise

That can be taken two ways. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Anyway, I've seen pink Packer gear. I guess whatever happens to sell...

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Pink packer gear is for breast cancer research, or at least the hats are. Like the red hats were for Heart Disease research.

One of my favorite Brewers hats is black with only a gold outline of the M.

I know many an Irishman who are quite proud of that fact and do go out of their way to advertise it.

I've seen a ridiculous amount of green Twins shirts at Target in the Twin Cities area, so it's not unique to the Brewers.

The Red Sox have Irish-themed stuff all the time, but at least Boston is associated with Irish people....

We Irish live in places other than Boston and the southside of Chicago. I like being able to have green themed brewers stuff. Makes me feel kinda proud at times.

It's just marketing to a different demographic

As is so often the case, that's what it comes down to. A green ball-glove logo cap won't turn my head, but enough other people will buy it. That's fine.

Hmmmm...since I'll be at the st. patrick's day game I'm tempted to head to Kohls to pick something up. At least at Kohls prices I can afford to buy a shirt I won't wear much...the same shirt would probably sell for $50 in the fanzone.

I think it's just to sell more stuff. Different people like different looks, some people collect all the hats they can. I like green, so I'll probably grab a green Brewers hat.

There are quite a few different themed hats out there for the Brewers already and they all show people how much you care for your team.

Your going to the game in AZ on Pattys day? Nice, beer, St. Patricks day and Brewers baseball. Can't go wrong.
