7/18/07 D'Backs (Davis) @ Brewers (Capuano): 7:05 PM CDT

hopefully Braun proves me wrong, but I'm fearing a little slump here. Considering how he destroys lefty's, we'll see if my fear is warranted. After watching his HR just barely clear the wall, his next at-bat he starts off 3-0 before K'ing. Since then, he's looked a little too aggressive at the plate to me.

Projection updates. Just using what ESPN has for the rest of the year Braun would project to lead all Rookies in the 3 triple crown categories and steals, OPS, extra base hits. His final line is projected as 35 HR 96 RBIs and 20 SB. That's just nuts for a guy who missed almost two months

25 HRs seems more realistic.

"I don't know how the fans are going to be come Wednesday, we'll find out, but I think I did pretty good when I was here," he told Arizona's Web site. "I didn't leave as a free agent or anything. I didn't do a Carlos Lee or anything, let's put it that way."

I found that bit about Carlos Lee interesting. It's almost like there's some bitterness there. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, I don't know.

With the way Cappy's pitching lately, should we put an over/under on the number of walks between the 2 SP? What should it be, 8? 10?

I can't believe the thread has gotten this far and no one has mentioned their interest in how Capuano does tonight (unless I missed it). I've been waiting for this game since he exited on Friday night. If he bombs badly, I expect a move to be made sometime over the weekend.

I agree, Capuano's performance is by far the most interesting thing about the game tonight, to me. With Sheets down, he really needs to start carrying his share of the weight.

Trust your stuff, Cappy, and get back on the good foot!

For those that are suggesting that if Cappy struggles tonight, he may not make his next start...I'm wondering, what are you suggesting might happen? Return to the DL? Trade? Skipped? I don't necassarily disagree with you, I'm just wondering what alternative you had in mind. I would say the idea of skipping him and giving Gallardo a start would have been a very possible solution, until Sheets went down. At this point, I think they have to ride Capuano out and hope he figures things out, unless you're suggesting giving Villanueva a start, and move Parra to long man? I suppose this would make the most sense if anything were to happen?

edit: scenario.

The D-Backs' lineup as a whole hasn't impressed me. In fact, I've been surprised to see their play, yet notice them near the top of the NL West. Perhaps we're lucky we missed Webb?

Perfect game whereby to gauge Capuano's effectiveness, imho. Going against a less-than stellar offense in general, and specifically one that fares poorly against LHPing, should be a chance for him to shine. All I think we'll 'need' from Chris, relative to bullpen usage concerns, is appx. 6 IP, as Balfour, Parra, & T-Bow should all be available tonight (along with CoCo, given a save situation - but it'd be nice to score enough runs to give him a night off)

EDIT: I now see the D-B's have won only 2 of their last 10 games, including going merely 5-14 since their June 25th series v. the Dodgers. Maybe their poor hitting is catching up with them finally? Tough stretch for them, having been on the road from June 29th - July 8th, then home for 3 v. SF (they won the first two), and now on the road from July 16th - 22nd (@ us & ChC for a combined 7 games). Let's just hope they can get hot against the sCrUBs.

I'm not predicting anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if Turnbow got the nod in a save situation tonight, since Coco has pitched so much lately.

I... am somehow intrigued by that lineup. I seriously think it makes sense for some odd reason.

Nedly's throwing the kitchen sink and everything around it at Double D tonight...should be interesting to see how this Graffy in LF situation plays out.

Graffy last played outfield for the White Sox in '01, he had 0 errors in 3 chances.

I too am intrigued by this lineup, I would LOVE to see this pay off and the crew put up a ton of runs just to shut up the Cubs and ESPN again.

Can't be much worse than Carlos Lee ever was in LF, can he?

Between Cappy and Davis, I think the amount of walks in this game could make this a 5 hour game. And I'm only exaggerating by about a half an hour. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Heading out to the game in a few minutes, I almost wish I could stay home and listen to Bill blow smoke about these guys having two of the best pickoff moves in baseball, but I'll be too busy enjoying my 16.50 field outfield seats.

Hopefully someone can answer this quick before I go, is Graffy really starting in left?
