Angel only has 5 games remaining on his suspension. I don't think that takes away his status as the top catching prospect in the system.

jonathon lucroy is a better prospect than lou palmisano currently, so i'd say he's the de facto #1 until the second week of the season when angel returns

Palmissano being out virtually assures the losers in the Brewer backup catcher derby will be sharing catching duties at Nashville.

 

I would think Carlos Corporan figures to catch at Huntsville backing up Salome eventually.

kgbaseball mentioned a Orton Rodriguez signing in Dec. I guess I assumed he was a 6 year free agent, but maybe he's a Latin America signing?

OK, I see now. We mentioned this after the Baseball America post, it is a youngster, I'm in the midst of adding the latest Latin youngsters we've mentioned in other threads to our Player Index.

 

Orton Rodriguez is only 18 years old (turns 19 in September). He's 6'2", 187, and a RH bat. He's out of Puerto Rico (related to Pudge? Probably not, he certainly has a bigger body frame, but maybe).

Shawn Zarraga will be an interesting catching prospect to follow, a guy that has considerable power potential and was given early round money as a 44th rounder a year ago. He may be at Arizona this year, possibly Helena, so it may take a while to get a feel for what kind of pro potential he has.
