Minor Leaguers in Brewer Spring Training Games

If you watched WGN today, you may have seen Mark DiFelice, Sam Narron, Derek Miller, Melqui Torres, Joe Bateman, EJ Shanks, Matt Cline, Lorenzo Cain, Chuck Caufield, Martin Maldonado, Caleb Gindl, and Taylor Green. Of note would be Bateman's two scoreless innings, a base hit by Gindl, and a nice play at the plate by Maldonado to tag out a Cub runner.

Here's the MLB.TV link for the game:

You may not need a subscription to pull up the archive -- now obviously, the kids were scattered throughout the game, particularly the middle and late innings, but for instance, if you want to see Taylor Green (a walk) and Caleb Gindl (line single) in consecutive at-bats, it's easy to find because it's exactly at the two hour mark.

Here's the Gameday Link -- using this, you may find it easier to move to particular points of interest in the game.

I know this is somewhat off topic for this thread, but does anyone know when the minor league rosters will be set? I watched about 1/2 dozen guys that have passed through WV in the last 2 years play against the cubbies yesterday, and I've got to tell you, it was pretty exciting! I just figure that meant they were evaluating final roster assignments, and we do host family duty was trying to get a jump on apartment hunting!

Hopefully we'll have full reports for you by the end of the weekend on this.

Final decisions are still being made, and while we work with the front offices of the affiliates to obtain the information, we also respect the fact that these various staffs have to wait for the Brewers to give them a final "OK" to release the information. We have a long history here at Brewerfan in working with the affiliates in this way, as we certainly don't want to jeopardize our status with them by getting them "in trouble" with the parent club.

We'll do our best to give you more than just names, meaning some analysis, surprises, etc. Keep in mind that some of the kids are also getting released this week, as we've already seen posted, and we certainly don't want to jump any guns on that.

Considering that the minor league seasons begin Thursday, and each squad is playing some sort of exhibition on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, the kids you'll be hosting will be arriving in town any moment.

EDIT: By the way, the 2007 Player of the Year in the entire organization was one of the last-minute almost "afterthoughts" last year. Hey, West Virginia needs a third baseman -- Taylor Green, you've never played it before -- well, just do your best!
