Grade my Fantasy Baseball Team

apirk

Well just had my auction yesterday. I like my team but don't love it, but I feel I have sold reliable veterans and a couple of future prospect to keep. I got stuck on a few players I really didnt want and felt I overrpaid for them.

This is a 12 team league head to head, 1st year of a 4 year keeper league with a $275 cap. We use the basic 5x5 except we use OBP instead of AVg.

C Brian McCann $14

1B James Looney $12

2B Aaron Hill $1

SS Orlando Cabrerra $4

3B AROD $45 really didn't want him, don't know why I bid on him but hey I have the best player in the league

OF Ichiro $28

OF Bobby Abreu $19

OF Hunter Pence $19

UT Konerko $11 - didn't really want him but he is my only strictly power guy so I don't think he'll hurt.

P Erik Bedard $23

P Gagne $8 - overpaid big time

P Aaron Harang $17

P Tim Hudson $6

P Ubaldo Jimenez $4

P Scott Kazmir $15

P Fransisco Rodriguez $20 - overpaid

P Carlos Villanueva $1

P Adam Waingwright $4

Dont worry about what you paid for guys, worry about who you get. Who cares if you pay 45 for A-Rod if you get some steals somewhere else.

Overpaying for old guys is bad though, I dont like Abreu, but maybe that is because I sold low on him last year....really low. Your pitching looks solid. Offense looks average, but no glaring holes in any category.

Abreu is real good. He doesn't hit homers like he used to but in that lineup he will score runs and get rbis, not to mention he will still hit 20 homers and steal 20 bases with a good average.

The one thing that sticks out to me is injury risk with your starters. Harang has been abused the last few years, Kazmir had some elbow tightness this spring (not to mention he's thrown his share of innings at a young age) and there are questions about Bedard's mechanics over the long haul (and that he's spent time on the DL every year). Definitely a high risk/high reward rotation because all three of those guys are going to put up great numbers if healthy.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

So, any Auction League vets want to give some advice? Oh, and by the way, I am trying to organize a LIVE Auction draft in either the Milwaukee or Oshkosh area on March 29, I think we have 8-9 teams right now, room for 3 more or so, PM if you like. $25 entry fee.

I'd wait on closers the top 4 closers went for $20+ the rest went for 1-8. I could have gotten 3 mediocre closers for the price of K Rod and who knows how well any of them will do. One year a closer could have 40 saves the next 20.
