Minneapolis on a Monday night?

theavrock
What's up guys? I am going to pick up a car in Minneapolis on Tuesday and me and a buddy are contemplating going up on Monday night just to "get out of Milwaukee" for a night. Is there anything to do on Monday nights? We probably would just hit the bar, but want to find some place with some people. Also we are open to any other suggestions for stuff to do. Someone told me to go to Joe's Garage. I have no idea though. It has been forever since I have been to the Twin Cities. What should we do? We are open to neighborhoods and just about anything that would be fun for a couple of 24 year old guys to do. Thanks for any suggestions.

Joe's Garage is ok, nothing too special though, imo. You could see if anything is going on at 1st Avenue (the famous concert venue), though I don't think there is. You could go to karaoke at The Gay '90s. There're all kinds of nightclubs (and stripclubs) and restaurants around, I don't know what you are into though. The Timberwolves are playing on Tuesday, seeing another city's arena is always cool, I think. You could always go over to the campus and see if anything is going on. I know there is a faculty flute recital and a Jazz concert on campus this monday. The Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival is showing two films on Monday at the Oak St. Cinema. There is an exhibit on suburbia at the Walker Art Center that sounds interesting, though I haven't seen it yet. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts has a Japanese art exhibit going on, and an otherwise formidable collection as well. Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars are playing at the Guthrie Theater on Monday. Altan is playing on Tuesday at the Cedar Cultural Center. There is an ongoing Animation exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota, which also has an IMAX screen. The Wild are playing at the Xcel Center on Tuesday. Finally, there are 4 college baseball games at the Metrodome on Monday, which also features rollerskating on its upper concourse on Monday evenings.

Go to the U area and find the bar that has the best Monday night drink special, that would probably be your best bet to find a place with people. My guess is that downtown will be pretty dead unless there is a show somewhere. From my experience, Monday nightlife was slow up there, even on campus.

Thanks guys. I think we will totally be going to see Sierra Leone Refuge All Stars at the Guthrie Theatre. We aren't clubbing types. More or less a place with good beer and welcoming people. A place that plays good music is always a plus (indie rock but not the pretentious kind). Obviously being two 24 year old guys, cute girls are always a plus as well. We are also going to be running pretty tight on time getting to the show so a place to grab a bite to eat after the show gets out would be good too. Keep the recommendations coming. Thanks guys!
