The Overrated Thread

Glennron

I'll stick with my historically overrated, but I aggree and disaggree with many others on this thread. Mainly I disaggree with the Bob Dylan being overrated. I love his music, but he does suck big time in concert now. Kurt Warner is the most overrated MVP of all time. 5-yards to Torry Holt for a 65 yard pass.

Christopher Columbus is one of the most ovverated people in history also. What did this guy ever do, he died and still thought he was sailing to India. The Vikings and possibly Irish(?) Monks were in America earlier.

Finally, I hate to say it, but Shakespear is overated. I like a lot of his writings, but people act like he was the only person putting pencil to paper during that era.

-Spotted Cow ("OMG BEST BEER EVA!!11!" - Every college student)

-Donnie Darko

-Tom Brady

-The Counting Crows

-The Decembrists and any faux-ironic indie band armed with a thesaurus

-The Grateful Red -Chicago

And my all time favorite: Being overrated is pretty overrated.

local news broadcasts are one of the most overrated thing ever. it's 5 minutes of news and 25 minutes of human-interest stories. and when you wonder how they can fill up even one tv broadcast, they have a second on one an hour later and another one at 10. just pointless.

and in a smaller way, the local weather takes 10 minutes when it could be summed up in 1. why take time to tell us at 10 pm what the weather was like that day? uh, don't we already know. and what's the weather like right now? how about stick your head out a window yourself and find out.

alcohol shots are overrated. even if it's tasty, why pay $4 for something you drink in a second? otherwise, why pay money for a drink that makes you cringe?

i'm starting to learn that a college education is overrated, or at least getting a non-difficult degree.

i may be confusing this thread with a similar rant thread. this thread is overrated.

I'll say buying clothes. It irks me when people spend so much money on their wardrobe.
Spending money on clothes when you are fully grown is one thing. I would say spending a lot of money on clothing for your kids when they are going to outgrow them every 6-12 months.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

No Country For Old Men was probably the worst movie I'd ever seen in theaters. The action scenes were alright, but the lack of background music and the times when there actually was dialog droned on and on to the point where I would space out, come back to the movie and realize the same person is still talking.

Anchorman. It was funny, but not as funny as people made it out to be.

I think the lure of Anchorman is the combination of it being kinda funny with Christina Applegate. The combination makes it a good movie.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

Retro Brewers gear.
Very funny considering you have a barrel man logo for an avatar. I will be laughing about that for a few days.

I also said specifically the ball and glove logo, barrel man rules. I don't have a problem with the stuff so to speak, just think its overrated how popular it is.

Will Ferrell never got the appeal from his SNL days on. He seems way to much of "I am thespian," overacting type. He's not very versitile even though he has funny material to work with. Kind of the male version of Tracy Ullman. Talented yet never quite funny.

Saturday Night Live of the last decade. I was around from the very beginning and was one of the most influential comedy avenues in my life but they just aren't the same now. They lost the edge that made them so great. Perhaps it's because none of the stars view it like the pinnacle of their careers like the old "not quite ready for prime time players," did. Now it's more a way to get exposure to become the next Will Ferrell verse the old days when they just hoped to be good enough to stay on the air. No edge no humor.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Overrated? This bunch...

Basketball. Why don't they just start every game with the score at 90-90 with 2 minutes left, because, let's face it, that's the only point worth watching. During the AS Weekend the only remotely interesting thing was the dunks and tricks part - now that's entertaining.

Pickles. Cucumbers soaked in pure evil I tells ya.

The Matrix Trilogy. Sure, pretty to look at with slo-mo bullets and fancy computer effects, but completely lacking in substance. No wait, the soundtrack's good. 2 and 3 in particular are no-plot, deliberately obtuse dreck.

Blondes. They may have more fun, but that's only because it would be pointless trying to have a conversation with them...

Bob Dylan. Yup, I've said it before, but if he just gave his incredible songs to others to sing, I'd like him a lot more. See also: Neil Young.

Any Star Wars movie not made in the 70's or 80's. Ooooooh, isn't CGI fabulous? What the bejeesus is Jar-Jar Binks about? Oh my god, Hayden Christensen is quite ridiculously bad as an actor.

Politicians. Not one cares about anyone other than themselves.

Slasher horror movies. Lowest common denominator film-making at its worst.

Babies. Sure, I'm pleased that you've increased the population, but did having the child drain every single other topic of conversation from your body? And why do you feel the need to tell me in-depth biological details about bodily fluids, functions or other developments like I was your doctor?

Root Beer/Dr.Pepper. They must have the very best marketing ever, cos all I taste is medicine.

Jam Bands. You know a band must be bad when people have to take drugs just to enjoy them.

Coffee. It tastes good and all, but I don't get how some people "can't function without it".

NASCAR. The US "Driving Round In Circles Inside Large Advertising Billboards" Championships.
