Jeffress Spent a Month in Rehab

PeaveyFury

Per Tom H and the JS blog, Jeremy Jeffress spent a month in rehab following his positive substance abuse tests:

Very nice to see that Jeffress seems serious about putting this behind him and getting his career back on track.

Is marijuana addictive?

Edit: I guess it is

Is marijuana use addictive?

Long-term marijuana use can lead to addiction for some people; that is, they use the drug compulsively even though it often interferes with family, school, work, and recreational activities. According to the 2001 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, an estimated 5.6 million Americans age 12 or older reported problems with illicit drug use in the past year. Of these, 3.6 million met diagnostic criteria for dependence on an illicit drug. More than 2 million met diagnostic criteria for dependence on marijuana/hashish. In 1999, more than 220,000 people entering drug abuse treatment programs reported that marijuana was their primary drug of abuse.

Along with craving, withdrawal symptoms can make it hard for long-term marijuana smokers to stop using the drug. People trying to quit report irritability, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety. They also display increased aggression on psychological tests, peaking approximately 1 week after they last used the drug.

some people can control their substance use (any substance) and some people can't. brain function is a funny thing and if Jeffress felt he needed to get professional help in order to control his behavior, I wish him the best of luck. hopefully this helps him get past the whole "million dollar arm but ten cent head" path that he was on

well, it's good to get out of the cycle where substance use is habitual. That's where rehab can help, even if he's not addicted and doesn't have withdrawal. the only "cure" is if he doesn't get into the situations where he used. If that is related to this friends, he needs to sever ties with them. we ARE our habits.

Marijuana is actually less physiologically addictive than Alcohol, Coke, Heroin, Nicotine, and caffeine. Take that.

Good to hear Jeffress took some time to try to rid himself of the practice. Did the article say if it was forced on him?

I need him back on the field as he is one of my go to guys on the link reports!!!

Yah, there are two sides to addiction - the drug itself can be addictive and/or the person using the drug can have an addictive/compulsive personality. It's usually a little bit of both, but someone with an addictive personality will make a *relatively* non-addictive drug like marijuana a very addictive habit.

Hope he's able to kick the habit for the sake of his career.
